It's Buddy Walk Time

Since Oct is National Down Syndrome Awareness Month there are Buddy Walks™ taking place all across the country and abroad.

The Buddy Walk™ is a 1-mile walk to raise funds and awareness, and to promote inclusion and acceptance of individuals with Down syndrome. In 2007 more than 270 Buddy Walk™ events took place, over $9.5 million dollars was raised nationwide, and more than 230,000 individuals participated in a Buddy Walk™.

We've been attending Buddy Walks™ since Kayla was 3 months old - this will be our 6th year participating. The Roswell Buddy Walk is on Oct 11 and hopefully it won't be quite as interesting getting there like it was last year - but of course Joe is here this year so it'll be uneventful!

We hope to raise $1700 for Kayla's team. Part of the funds raised are sent to the National Down Syndrome Society and the remaining funds are put back into the local organization. Last year we were able to receive a scholarship to attend the national convention, which was a real blessing!

If you would like to sponsor Kayla you can visit her First Giving page or click on the fundraising link on the top left page. Thank you!

ok...love this! we are doing a Mitochondrial Disease Walk in October for our friends whose daughter has mito. October is a good month, huh? and, how per se, do we donate in your name?

as for the ADHD...it was hard getting the dx. B got a firm DX at 4 with all her doctors agreeing and seeing her textbook symptoms. we had set up a developmental pediatrician appt and that is the best way. our insurance wasn't helpful at all. b was really starting to hurt herself and put herself in danger...like not unerstanding danger, biting her toenails off, biting her shins until they bled, etc.

she has been on meds for a year and a half and she is still the same vibrant kid (see my posts if you ever question that). she just has more discernment and clarity. she told the doctor like 3 months after her meds started, 'i love my medicine. i can mind at school and think better.' that says it all. it must be so frustrating to be suffering like that all the time.

I hope you get the funds raised and then some! We've been planning to go on a Buddy Walk and this was the year, but a friend is getting married that day. It's always something.
