Siblings

I wasn't sure what to expect with Kayla's reaction to having a baby in the house; so far she's been a real trooper about not being the center of attention! :) She seems in awe of her baby brother, and I can only wonder when the novelty will wear off!

The first thing she said when we all walked in the house on Sun after coming home from the hospital was, "baby play?" She went to her room and kept saying "a 'mon, baby play a room" over and over. It kind of broke my heart that she just didn't realize he can't quite play with her yet!

Yesterday she wanted him to sit on the floor and play ball with her. I sat him in my lap and did the best I could with that and she seemed to think that was fun enough.

She likes covering him with a blanket, saying "aaaww cute!" and giving him kisses on the cheek.
The first time she saw me nursing him she thought he was sleeping and I told her he was eating. She had to get a closer look then she thought it was funny. She said "eating!" and started giggling, then "daddy look! baby eating cereal!" LOL I don't know why she thought it might be cereal! I told her it was milk so now she says "baby eating milk" and still giggles about it.

She doesn't like when he cries (she's never liked when other babies/kids cry) and hides out in her room when that happens. Thankfully, so far, he usually only cries when having his diaper changed - he doesn't like that at all.

She had to show Lucas her own baby:

She brought her pillow and baby doll's blanket to the living room and wanted me to put Lucas on it then said "Kayla sleep too" and settled in next to him.

She snuggled even closer to him and made sure their heads were touching:

She likes to pat/rub his head:

She'll still ask to hold him by holding her arms out and saying "I have it please"... but when we put him in her lap she doesn't quite want to hold him in her arms; like she's just not sure what to do with him:

Ok he's crying now, someone come get him!

Family picture with the obligatory crying baby!
and of course with neither kid looking at the camera!

AWWW So CUTE! I'm so very happy for you. My guess on the novelty wearing off is that it just may not happen. Tristan is in love with his cousin Ainsley and she is 7 months old. Then again she goes home at the end of the day. Kayla is going to Love being a big sister and soon enough will have a little buddy to play with :) Tristan gets really concerned when babies cry. If the Drunk driving commercial comes on TV with the baby crying (not sure if we have the same commercials)and he is all the way down in the basement he'll come up to make sure everyones ok. lol

De-Lurking, my 2 year old daughter says the same thing when she wants to hold her 2 month old sister, "I have it pees". It's soo cute! Lucas is a cutie, taking after his sister already!

Yes I am totally biased but I have to say the four of you are a beautiful family!!! Kayla is going to be a wonderful big sister, once she gets used to the crying :-)
Love you guys and thank you so much for letting me share these first few days of Lucas' life with you.

I cannot believe how alert he is for being a week or less old?? He is looking at that doll like he knows exactly what it is, how funny. He is beautiful and so is precious Kayla. I am so happy for you guys.

So sweet. I love the picture of Kayla holding the crying baby, her face is priceless. She's so done! Looks like things have gone well so far, maybe it's a blessing that she's a little older, maybe it would have been harder if she were younger. Things always work out, don't they? Congrats to your family, you look so happy together!

They are so cute together. She's so sweet with him. It is so hard for them to understand the whole blob thing. You all look so happy.

Oh these pics are so gorgeous! I love that Kayla is enjoying her wee brother (apart from the crying of course). Oh yes we had quite a few pics of the 4 of us, with one child trying to dart off, another crying or looking away. You all look fabulous. I am so thrilled for you all.

He is so handsome Michelle! Love all the photos you included! Kayla seems to be adjusting well. I remember after Judah was born Eve had a couple of days where she was sad -she'd burst out in tears randomly. We figured it was her way of grieving for the loss of all the attention. But this time there really wasn't any problems at all. I am quite sure Kayla will do awesome.

You are in my thoughts....

I don't know where Kayla is at developmentally, but when I was pregnant with my youngest daughter, I was worried about how my son would handle it. My oldest three kids are all 8 years apart, and my youngest two are barely 2 years apart. I child development specialist explained to me that my son would never remember anything different. He would have no memories of it being just him with us...his earliest memories would always include his baby sister. Therefore, we never went through the blatant jealously that you hear about and worry about. We've certainly found that to be true. However, it doesn't mean that they don't compete for my attention and occasionally have a very hard time sharing mommy! You might get lucky and she may never get tired of having her adorable baby brother around. Good luck with your wonderful family.

I love the pictures of Kayla laying by him. That is so sweet!! I hope that the novelty never wears off and that they get to "play" together soon. I'm sure Kayla will love being the big sister when she can make him laugh at her, that was when my other kids always fell totally in love with the youngest one. Plus nothing makes your heart melt like watching your children laugh and play together!

Your pictures are amazing. I'm glad Kayla is still in her honeymoon phase. You're right it may not last when she begins to really realize her brother isn't just visiting. But it might be a short phase before she's right back to the awwww cute!

W.W. doesn't like when other babies cry either. He asks Why Baby cry over and over again.

Wonderful pictures! Thanks for sharing.

Those pictures are adorable.

And I just thought I'd mention to you since you seem to be having some of the same issues we have here. Gabi is very sensitive to Preston's cries (and yells now that he is doing that) and I have to be very careful because she tries to muffle his sounds by covering him (sometimes with toys, blankets or his hand). Of course she doesn't do it to hurt him, but the potential to accidently hurt him is there. I only tell you this so that you can be cautious. I hope you don't think of me as butting in with the unwanted advice that many new moms get. Sorry if it comes off that way.

Sounds like Kayla is doing fantastic with Lucas. I am very proud of what a great big sis she is being.

How precious! When we brought daughter #2 home...daughter #1 said, "I want a brother, take her back please." After boy #1 came home, daughter #1 said, "Isn't God funny? I asked for a boy and got a girl, then I asked for a girl and got a boy...he still gave me I wanted after all!" Enjoy that little boy...he's super cute!!
