Kayla-isms

Whew! Oct 31st! I made it to the end of the "31 for 21" blog challenge for Down syndrome awareness. Thanks to Tricia for coming up with this idea. Remember, she's also coordinating a swap for all the participants who are interested (and don't worry if you didn't make it all 31 days, or 31 posts, as long as you tried you're in!) Today is the deadline to sign up, so go over to her blog and tell her you're in!

After posting for each day in Oct (and now spending all my time signing up for all the great contests going on in the fall giveaway carnival), I feel like I'll need a blogging hiatus next week!

For this last day of "31 for 21" I'm giving you 21 "Kayla-isms"

1. When we come to a door that opens automatically Kayla will say "Thank you!" Once we pass through she turns around and says "door shut" and we have to wait to make sure the door does shut before going any farther.

2. When I stop at a red light she'll say "Top yight!" When it turns green she'll yell out "Go!!!!" Sometimes when we pass through the light she'll say "Bye go! Bye-bye!"

3. There is a place in town where the road has two pretty big dips together and it feels like you're on a mini roller coaster. Down, up, down, up. When we go over this we say "Wheeee!" Then Kayla will say, "Again!" as if I could make it happen again.

4. If I yawn she'll ask me, "tired Mommy?" When I say "yes" she'll fake yawn and say, "I tired too."

5. When we're doing something together like a puzzle, or coloring, she'll see what I've done and say "Good job Mommy!" and clap for me.

6. Before we leave the house she always has to "fix" the floor mat, even if it hasn't been moved and isn't crooked...but especially if it is crooked. Then she has to line it up just so against the door and say "There!"

7. When I open the door to the van for her to get in she'll run to it saying "Seat!!!!" I don't know why she is so happy to get in her car seat!

8. If I go outside for just a minute to get the mail or paper, when I come back in she runs up to me with a big smile, arms thrown out wide, yelling "Mommy!" and then wraps those arms around my legs as if she hasn't seen me for days.

9. She's my little shadow around the house. If I walk down the hallway she'll take off after me yelling, "Mommy wait! Wait Mommy!"

10. When she comes home from school she usually has a sticker on her hand. She makes a point to show me how proud she is of her sticker, and than as we're walking home she always puts it on my hand.

11. I've mentioned before how she has to stop and pick up leaves on our walk to the bus. Some of the houses have rock landscaping with some small rock displays. These rocks inevitably make it to the sidewalk. Kayla thinks it is her job to throw each rock back on the yards.

12. After I've taken a shower she likes to touch my hair and proclaim "Wet!" Then she touches her hair and says "Ah dry" and rinse and repeat :)

13. She'll ask me "A doin Mommy?" I tell her "I'm making dinner, or washing dishes, or reading a magazine (or whatever) and she'll say "ooooh." 2 seconds later, "A doin Mommy?" We go through a few rounds of this until I reply with, "What am I doing Kayla?" She'll tell me, "A reading, mayin dinner, etc."

14. When we're coloring together she has to hand me the color crayon she wants me to use.

15. If I start singing or whistling she'll put her hand up and say, "No singing/sistle Mommy." If she's close enough to me she'll put her hand over my mouth. I can only sing, whistle, or dance when she asks me too.

16. If she sees a piece of lint, scrap paper, thread, or something like that on the floor, she'll pick it up and say "trash" then promptly brings it to the trash can (who needs a vacuum!?) If she sees me picking something up off the floor she'll point to the trash can and say "Trash Mommy." After I've thrown it away she'll say "thank you" as if I've done her a favor.

17. Out of the blue she'll put her hand up to her brow and say, "Whew, a close!" (as if she's saying "that was close!" but I don't know what was close).

18. She likes to put blankets, clothes, hand towels, anything that will cover her head and face and walk around the house (I'm surprised she can walk around without bumping into walls!) and saying "Ghost bunny!" (Thanks to Max and Ruby for that one.)

19. When she wakes up in the morning she'll call out to me "I up Mommy! I up!" over and over until I acknowledge her.

20. When I'm getting ready for bed at night washing my face I have to wet a corner of a washcloth for her too and then she washes her cheeks. She'll then go to my dresser drawer and pull out the pjs she wants me to wear "Blue ones!"

21. When she wanted another story read, or to play another game, or something like that I would tell her, "Just one more time." She now says that to me when she wants something again "One more time Mommy" with 1 finger in the air. She uses this when she just wants one more of something too, like another cracker, "One more time Mommy"and I just laugh.

She's so sweet. My daughter says "Go at the traffic lights and "Wait Mummy" too - there were quite a few similarities. Thanks for sharing there..she's adorable.

she sounds like so much fun to be around. I am sure exhausting as all children are, but so much love and joy is wrapped up in that package!

Oh, I love this post! How sweet! I love to think of all the cute things my children do. Sometimes I get caught up in all of their annoyances, so your post helped me refocus on their cute little habits! Thanks, Michelle.

Gabi is very similar to #6 her covers on her bed have to be perfectly straight or she makes her baby beds which is a baby blanket on the floor, and they have to be perfectly straight. As far as #9 Gabi still follows me around everywhere. And then #13- oh boy it never ends. My DH goes nuts over that one becasue I always answer her,a nd he says she just asks me because she wants to talk.

They were all completely adorable.

Oh they are all too cute. My girls also give me the crayons I am to use. Kayla also loves to line things up - the door mat reminds me of mine. :) There are random times during the day that Alysa will run up to me, throw her arms around my leg and say either "I love you SO much Mommy." or "I missed you SO much Mommy."

:)

She sounds like a joy! You are so blessed to have such a loving, darling little girl. I am falling more and more in love with her the more I come over here and learn about her. She is simply a blessing - isn't she!? I loved all these things she says - so nice to have written them all down too. Have a good day.

Those are all so cute. I especially liked the one where she'll ask over and over again, "Whatcha' doin'?" I hear that alot around here too, but I've never reversed it and asked them, "What IS Mommy doing?"

What a joy Kayla is, and fun too. I agree never a dull moment!

Wow, you could be describing Micah with so many of these. That's so funny. Although he doesn't talk, I could totally see him thinking these things. Kayla is like a little insight into Micah's world.

I love these! If I was out and saw you guys and she said bye bye to the door, that would make my day. It is the small things in life that make it special. She is just too adorable!

Leslie said...

So sweet! Oh so many remind me of Jack! He says, "Whatcha doin'?" a hundred times a day! He says it like Joey Tribioni on Friends.

And he says, "Bye bye" to every.thing.

He even says it if he doesn't want to go somewhere..."Bye bye, BYE-BYE." (He's telling bye-bye to go bye-bye, because he doesn't want to go!)

I bet she and Jack would have a ball together!
