Time Travel Tuesday

This week we are "travelling" back to our first blog post and telling how we started blogging.

If you look through my archives you'll find the very first post is this one; however that wasn't the very first one I actually wrote on this blog. I kept an online "journal" on our family website and when I started blogging I copied over the last few posts I did on the website. The first post that I created on this blog is Budding Artist with a picture of Kayla and her easel!

A while ago there was a meme going around listing the 5 reasons you blog, so I'll repost my answers for that as to how I started blogging:
1. I blog for my family and friends. We are in the military and have no family close by so they don't get to see Kayla "grow up." I created a family website for us, but then I found out about blogging and it just seemed easier, more fun, and more interactive. I still have the family website, but it's just languishing out in cyberspace now.
2. I started reading blogs about 1.5 yrs ago and while I could leave comments on some of them without having a blogger account, there were some that didn't allow anonymous comments. I got tired of lurking and decided to create my own account.
3. I used to keep diaries and journals and every great once in a while I enjoy looking through them and reading about the things that were going on in my life and remembering who I was then. I figured this would be another way to keep a journal and look back on. Hopefully it'll give Kayla a glimpse into her life too!
4. I try to subtly use my blog to be an advocate for not just my daughter, but all people with Down syndrome. I hope to raise awareness and acceptance and even if I only change one person's perspective, it's worth it.
5. And the last reason? Why not? "Everyone" was doing it!

Blogging is a great way to raise awareness. I love to see how happy Kayla is - I think it's great for everyone to see it.

I'm glad it's a good way for your family to keep up with you and Kayla too. It's hard not being close to family.

I,too, am glad you did. Your positive attitude and grateful heart and sweet spirit are a blessing. And you are a super advocate. I know Kayla will enjoy your blog when she's older. Just the videos and pictures alone are a treasure - and her Mommy's precious words will bless her heart.
This "blogging business" has turned out to be a wonderful thing!!

Hi Michelle! I am 100% confident God is using you and your blog to raise awareness and to bless other families. You do such a great job. Even though I just found you recently, I've already read lots of your old stuff and have been so impressed with your heart and your efforts.

I absolutely, positively LOVE your first official entry! Down syndrome, as with any other syndrome or disability is something that a whole person, a whole spirit has, it does not define them. I think that's where the disconnect is. As believers, we know the value of human life, the fact that the spirit, the soul, is God-breathed. We know that each person has purpose and value. I suppose we just pray for those who haven't found the Lord, because it is a sad existance without Him. Your daughter, as I've said before, is beautiful! What a blessing to have a daughter like her grace your family. I'm sure she has taught and continues to teach you so much.

I just read your blogaversary post from March 17th, how fun to get to know Kayla in that way. She was much ahead of my Chloe on the mobility thing! Chloe is nine months old and still hasn't figured out crawling yet. She does the scoot backwards thing and can crawl her hands, but can't figure out how to put one knee in front of the other. All in good time right, then she'll be in to everything! Oh, and my girls LOVE Boz and Signing Time too, they are their favorites! Chloe signed more for the first time yesterday! Oh, and I also took the time to read your birth story, that was fun. Is there a post about how you first found out Kayla had Downs and how you dealt with it?

Numbers 2 and 3 are how I started blogging too. Well mostly because I was following LauraJ's blog and couldn't leave a comment, so I just said, what the heck, I love to write anyway!!
