She sat on Santa's lap!
Sunday was the children's Christmas party for Joe's squadron. I wasn't sure how Kayla would do sitting on Santa's lap and figured it would be a rerun of last year. Last year she was ok if we were holding her and she looked at Santa, but when it came time to sit on his lap and get her present she wanted nothing to do with it. I couldn't get her to sit on his lap so I tried standing beside him and having her stand in the middle - not happening - she was wriggling and arching her back and trying to reach her daddy!
Last week anytime we came across Santa on TV or in a book I would exclaim it was Santa and talk about Santa etc and she would point out "tanta" too...but I know seeing him in person was a lot different so I didn't have my hopes up that she would actually sit on his lap for a picture.
Here we are outside waiting for Santa to show up - on a fire truck no less! Santa got out of the truck and walked right by her on the sidewalk and did she care? Not so much. She was much more interested in the fire truck (bye truck! bye bye!) Her aunt Kelly will get a kick out of her liking the fire truck more than Santa since she is a volunteer firefighter you know!
Back inside we go for all the kids to wait for their name to be called and receive their present. It worked out that Kayla's gift fell to the bottom of the bag and she was one of the last to be called. I was surprised that she actually sat with me the whole time watching each child get their present and open it. What happened to my child who would usually be up running around and not interested in paying attention to something like that?! She did really good though and waited patiently. I kept asking her if she was going to go sit on Santa's lap and get her present when she heard her name called and pointing out all the other kids who were doing just that. Then there was one little boy who really started crying and wanted nothing to do with the big guy in the red suit. That made Kayla start her fake crying and I thought oh boy here we go - now she really won't go up there!
But she did! He called her name and she jumped right up and walked up to Santa to get her present with no prompting from us. She didn't protest when he picked her up and put her in his lap either. Now I know she isn't smiling in any of these pictures - I couldn't get her attention to look at the camera and smile; she was more interested in the present! But her body language says it all - she's relaxed on his lap and siting back and not trying to get down. I couldn't believe she actually sat up there!

I'll bet she's figured out she needs to be very nice to this particular guy. Hee hee. The photos are so cute, smile or no smile. She really is interested in that present, isn't she?
WTG Kayla! At least she sat on his lap this year! Great pictures!
Very Nice Pictures!!! She looks so comfortable on Santa's lap. She looks beautiful too:)
She's so relaxed - that's adorable! My oldest daughter has FINALLY sat on Santa's knee for the first time this year and she's seven. I figure she did it just in the nick of time!
Awwww! That's so sweet! Way to go Kayla!!
well hooray for sitting on santa's lap!! if i were a bit smaller i'd sit on his lap too!!
How cute! We have very few pictures with Santa, and that's ok with me. My kids all would rather talk to him from across the barrier or next to him or in my arms. Hey, he IS a stranger, you know!
That is so sweet!I have pix posted of my bunch with Santa on my site this week,Our Santa arrived on a train....the firetruck arrival is great too!!!
aww she looks so cute on his lap! I love the pictures of her!She has such a cute smile! Her eyes always light up when she smiles! I don't blame her for wanting to see what she got. Tiffany and Gary do the same thing.
I think that is so cute about the fire truck. I'm sure Kelly does love that!
what a difference a year makes...the older they get the more fun they have!!
:-D
hehe maybe the waiting part was what she needed to be in her comfort zone! Too cool that she was able to experience it!
Seeing Kayla in her Daddy's arms is so sweet, the love that they have for each other glows!
You did a wonderful job of teaching her not to be afraid. Yea Kayla!
Wow!! That's great!! We've got our first encouter with Santa tomorrow at a party - we'll see how Percy gets on then!!
It is pictures like these that make Christmas so joyous!
Wtg !!!! Nathaniel is so into Santa that he runs at him, ( scares the poor guy I am sure ) :p
Yay Kayla, santa can sometimes be a little scary. We havn't taken Shaylee yet, but she did see him up on a firetruck just like Kayla!
Oh how fun!!! That's great she wasn't afraid this year and you got some cute pics. We've never taken Isabella to sit on Santa's lap, but I was wanting to do it this year. I think she'll do ok, but I know I'll never get Amelia to sit on his lap, that child screams at any stranger that tries to touch her, plus she even dislikes daddy and papa when they have hats on. :)
Ah - the mysteries of childhood. She looks like she's having a wonderful time. I'm so glad. I have a picture of myself on Santa's lap at about Kayla's age, and I look absolutely terrified!! Poor Santa - all that rejection.
Did she love her present?
That is SO sweet!
That happened to us with my littlest one year- crying on Santa's lap, that is. And the next year she was fine! But we have a photo of a smiling older sister and a bawling little sister sitting on Santa!
So cute that she kept saying bye to the truck instead of Santa! :D She's a cutiepie!
Wow! Isn't that just wonderful! It ended up being a blessing in disguise that her name was last and normally you would feel the oposite having to have a little girl wait that long after all the other kids, but it was reassurring to her! Cute picture! I love the story! :)
I love that last one - of the two of them looking at the present.
:)

Adorable pics of Kayla! It amazes me how a few months or a year can have such a difference on children.
We're tentively thinking of seeing what Olyvia thinks of Santa this year, but don't know yet.
Very awesome!!! I can't get over how big she is.. how she is growing up! I love the pics!
WTG Brave Kayla... She looks soooo sweet with Santa!
Yay, Kayla!!!!!
I had tears in my eyes, seeing the pictures of her sitting on Santa's lap...soooo proud of her! I think it might have helped for her to see so many of the other children sit on his lap and that's why she wasn't as scared when her turn came...whatever the reason, she did good:-) Love the pictures so much!!!
Love it....she is just to cute.
HUGS!
She looks pretty relaxed and very interested in that gift!!!!!! LoL
