2 Hour Naps...

Seem to be a thing of the past.

Kayla used to take nice, long 2-hr naps. Sometimes they would even be 2.5 hrs and occasionally even up to 3 hours.

But no more.

Awhile ago she started waking up almost exactly 1 hr after falling asleep. She didn't look like she was fully awake though so I would go lay her back down in bed and she would fall asleep for another hour.

But lately...she's not been cooperating with her momma!

After I lay her back down she's only been falling back to sleep for 20-30 min usually.

Is she trying to tell me she only needs a 1-hr nap now? What about me though?! What if I don't agree with these short 1-hr naps? I really enjoyed my long afternoon break when she was sleeping...so quite in the house.

I don't think there is any reasoning with her though. I just went to put her back in her bed for the second time and she layed there for a few minutes. She then sat up, said "kay?" and then "I sit."

Guess she's winning this battle!

Hey, Michelle, my sons, Brian and Mike gave up their naps around 3 years of age. Sorry, I think Kayla's nap times are about over with.

Yes, mine grew out of naps between 2.5 and 3 years. It's a rough transition!

BTW, I used to sell Discovery Toys when my first was a toddler, so I have tons of them around the house. So, yes, that was a DT toy you saw!

Ooohhhh... I'm so sorry! Sophia gave up her 3 hour naps too just recently for the hour & half. Boo!!! She turned two Feb 7, if that says anything about age & naps. Prayers with ya!

I don't think she's ready to give up the entire nap yet; just shortening it. She still needs at least an hour because she falls asleep within minutes and stays there for an hour. I guess 1 hr is better than nothing!

Tracey - I thought I recognized that product! Kayla had that one too :)

Jess - I guess that's how they start phasing out the naps - cutting them in half!

Miss E only takes an hour nap in the afternoon most days already.

awww I so feel bad when I read when kids give up naps or shorten them!! I fear the day...I NEED that break, I am a MUCH better mommy after nap time!!!

Good Luck...maybe you can teach her to have some quiet time, I have heard of that...although I cannot imagine it working, thankfully we are not there yet!

Afternoon quiet rest time might be an option. Never worked with my DS, but I know it works for lots of families. Veronica naps some days some days not. But, she is up most of the night.

Yep, sounds like long nap times are over! I miss those days!!

Snuggle Bug is still taking two naps (morning and afternoon) but the length of the naps is unpredictable. Sometimes he'll sleep for an hour, or an hour and a half, sometimes two hours, and every so often he'll sleep for three hours.

Occasionally he tries to not take a morning nap but Oronzo won't let him. Oronzo says if he's going to give up a nap, he wants it to be the afternoon nap, but Snuggle Bug seems to like that one. Eventually, I think Snuggle Bug will win his battle too! :)

Awww ... sorry to hear she's cutting down on her naptime! On the plus side at least she still naps for 1 hour. My oldest decided she was quitting naps cold turkey shortly after Brant was born, now that was no fun! So far we've been fortunate that Brant still takes 1-3 hour naps every day ... here's hoping he doesn't decide to quit them anytime soon!

Sorry she is cutting back on the naps. Tristan would sleep all day if I let him. BUT he is up alot at night so i have to limit him to 1 hour.

Callum still likes his 2 1/2 to 3 hour long naps, thank goodness. I love my kids but that break in the middle of the day is a much needed rest for all of us.

Hopefully it's just a phase.
