"Learning To Walk Together"

Here is a wonderful article about a couple with Down syndrome. I enjoy stories like these because it gives me so much hope for Kayla's future. I believe she will find someone to love and who will love her back unconditionally...there is no reason for this not to be possible. Stories like this prove it can happen. The only thing I'm bothered about is this couple had a "committment" ceremony, but are not legally married because then the state would cut their benefits by about a third. Isn't that ridiculous? To be penalized for being married.

Anyway, here is the heartwarming story with a lot of pictures to go along with it so make sure you check out the slide show too.

Edited to fix the link. Try this one:

Learning to walk together

PS - Rebecca did I actually find an article before you? :-)

I can't wait to read this story...for some strange reason I can't get the link to work.

My hope is the same as your Michelle, that if Emma Sage wants a relationship, she finds the right beau to love and cherish.

It is crazy about the benefits...I pray that we never have to worry about those things.

Sorry about the link - it should be working now!

I also hope that when the time comes years from now some of these restrictions on benefits will have changed and gotten with the times!

I did a bit of searching, and think I found the article here: http://news.rgj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051225/NEWS10/512250344

Great find Michelle!!!

I had an awful migraine today and spent the entire day with an ice pack at the base of my neck immobilized. No computer time for me, but I am sure I will be up and running again in the morning.

Wow, did you realize the link I posted was from a year ago, but a similar story in that the couple had DS and were married? It also appears to be a part of the same series of the newspaper. Cool huh?

Rebecca the article you found is of the same couple. There were a couple links - 2 articles and the slideshow. Both articles show 12/25/05 - I wonder why both are on the same day. I read the reporter said s/he was going to do a series and follow this couple. So I read the 2 articles but wonder if there were anymore.

Sorry to hear you had such an awful migraine yesterday - I hope you are feeling much better!
