Blame It On The Chromosome

Lucas gets crazy bed head hair when we wakes up. Like sticking-up-all-over-the-place crazy. Sometimes it's because his hair isn't completely dry from his shower when he's going to bed; other times I think it's because he sweats around his head when he sleeps ... so that leaves his hair drying in weird positions.

Most mornings I have to practically stick his head under a faucet to wet it down and get it combed half-way decently.

Then there are times, when his hair is growing out of the layers that were cut in to it, when I try to wet it down there is still a sort of lump under his hair and it just won't lay flat.

The other morning after struggling with that section of his hair once again, I made a comment that sent something like this, "Ugh! Why does your hair have this bump in it?"

As usual, without missing a beat, he was quick with his reply, "Maybe my chromosome told my hair to have a bump in it."

He went there. He was blaming it on the c-c-c-c-c-chromsome. (Yes, when I said to myself he blamed it on the chromosome I heard it in the form of Jamie Foxx's song "Blame It On The Alcohol.")

I guess he was paying a good bit attention when we had the chromosome talk and I told him our chromosomes tell us everything about how we're going to look: what color hair and eyes, how tall, if we're going to have freckles ...

And now his chromosome told his hair to to have a bump in it.

I do understand the crazy hair. Both of my boys have crazy hair, but the youngest one's hair is like your son's. I am not sure why. His hair was somewhat curly as a baby, so perhaps that is why, but oh my, I'm beginning to think he needs to have really long hair so he doesn't have that constant "bump" in the back.

Does he move around a lot when he sleeps? I know I do; when I wake up in the morning my hair looks like someone electrocuted me! :D
