Becoming a Self-Advocate

We will raise Kayla to become a self-advocate. To have her own voice. To speak up for herself. To advocate for her rights.

She is too young to understand what that means now, but it doesn't mean we can't help her start to become one in her own way.

Someone from the Oregon Council on Developmental Disabilities contacted me and asked if they could use a picture of Kayla for their new awareness poster. They needed a photo of a baby and I'm happy they were able to use one of my absolute favorites of her.

The new poster is titled I Have A Voice. I love the straight, simple, to-the-point message of this poster.

I am a self-advocate.
I have a future.
I have dreams.
I have a voice.
Are you listening?

Here is my little self-advocate-in-the-making:

Love it! I think Kayla and Sammi are going to be traveling the circuit of self-advocacy together one day. :-)
