Polar Bear Plunge

We spent the first day on 2012 on Sullivan's Island for the Dunleavy's Pub Polar Bear Plunge. The plunge benefits the SC Special Olympics and their mid-winter games. This was our first time participating, and it won't be the last! What a gorgeous day, too!

We volunteered to be a part of the 'bucket brigade' to walk around and collect donations. I thought I'd spread a little awareness by wearing my +15 shirt!

People really couldn't resist saying no to Kayla and Lucas when they asked, "Would you like to make a donation?" And Kayla loved handing out the "I Donated" stickers to everyone - sometimes even before they donated!

Absolutely beautiful weather today! This was the beach pre-crowd.

Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters! Of course this was lost on my kids, but I had to take their picture with this group.

We didn't actually plunge in the ocean; while it was a beautiful day the water was only 57 degrees and well, that was a bit too cold for me! But we did plunge our feet in the water! Kayla had so much fun jumping in the water, the cold didn't seem to bother her at all... and I had to pull her out when it was time to go. She just did NOT want to leave!

For some reason Lucas thought his shirt was going to get wet so he held it up the whole time!

How was your first day of the new year?

Just 57 degrees? Yea, I don't think I would have taken the plunge either!

Chuck and I taught Sunday school this morning, Beth greeted and welcomed people at the front doors, then we all went out to lunch. Came home and did some yard work. Not very exciting but it was a good day!

Happy New Year!

Hi, hey I was wondering if I could use one of your blog post for a project I am doing. I am going to Bulgaria to help put on a conference on Down syndrome for the families who have gone against society and kept their children with Down syndrome instead of giving them up to a life inside an orphanage. I am making a book of pictures and encouraging words or stories of what it is like to have a child with down syndrome. You can email me at mom2mariah@gmail.com
