Grains of Gratitude

1. I'm grateful Joe's training is done and he's here for the weekend. It's nice to see him for a short visit before he deploys. I'm grateful he was able to catch a ride from someone in the class back to MD - saved me a trip from driving to NJ to get him, so that was nice.

2. I'm grateful we were able to go to dinner by ourselves on Friday night. We went to Mimi's Cafe and had a very nice dinner (tasty food, sweet tea!, and yummy desserts) sans kids!

3. I'm grateful he's here to give Kayla someone to roughhouse with!

Because I sure don't let her bounce on my back!

4. At the beginning of Dec Kayla had some routine blood work done to screen for thyroid issues and celiac disease. After we moved here her dr from NM called to tell me the screening came back high for both of the tests. We finally got an appt w/her new ped here and had the thyroid redone (I wanted to have the celiac redone but the dr felt like it was an abnormal result and it wouldn't show up normal again so we didn't). I'm grateful that on Fri I found out the results from the thyroid are now back in the normal range! We'll still see an endo because she had the high range last month, but I'm glad that for now it is back in the normal range. She has a referral in to see the GI dr about the celiac screening so I don't have any answers on that yet.

5. I'm grateful for impromptu celebrations. Last night we had a chocolate cream pie for dessert. I quickly drizzled chocolate sauce on it to say "goodbye Joe" and then threw a candle on it to sing Happy Birthday to Lucas (since Joe will miss his birthday).

Kayla helped Lucas blow out the candle:

Hmmm...what is this stuff? It feels weird on my fingers:

Can someone wipe this off please?

Joe had to put Lucas's fingers in his mouth to convince him it was good to eat:

Well ok then!

Let me have at it!

Celebrate!

I'm so glad you got your weekend in. It must have been a bit bittersweet.

Hope that Kayla really doesn't have either condition. Not fun. Still, at least they can be dealt with.

Those sure were great pictures. Thanks for sharing. I can't believe the year has gone by so fast and that Lucas is almost one.

It's still so hard for me to believe that my wonderful son is going to be gone for a year. I'm so thankful he was able to spend a few days with all of you before he leaves. I hope and pray that this year flies by so Joe and once again be home where he belongs with his loving family.

The pictures are adorable.

That pie with "Goodbye Joe" written on it and the baby's candle put a big lump in my throat, Michelle. I'm so glad you have this bit of time with each other before he leaves.

Great news about Kayla's test results!

That's so sweet that Daddy and Kayla can rough house together, cause my Kallie and Todd like to do that as well. I can't believe how big Lucas has gotten! You have some gorgeous kids there!

My husband was tested for Celiac a few years ago since his count came back high. They did an endoscopy and biopsied his villi (or however you spell it) and it came back fine. If she is having some digestive bouts, then perhaps. It is still something good to get worked out, figured out and crossed off the list.

I'm so sad that Joe is leaving again. Seeing that he isn't going to be here for Lucas' birthday makes me sad, too. But, Lucas is a little kid and thankfully will be cool with it. I'm so glad that you are with family, though. Makes your life so much easier and gives all of you a good distraction until Joe comes back.

Hugs to all of you.

I am very glad that you got a little bit of time to yourselves. I think of you often and can only imagine how hard Joe's not being here will be on each and every one of you.
I hope that Kayla's thyroid keeps coming back within the normal range. I understand the Celiac's stuff we have that same issue, but just limiting the gluten has helped out with Abi a ton!

Thinking of you,

Lucas is getting so big. Sometimes I think he looks exactly like Joe and sometimes he looks a little like Mike to me, so I guess that means I think he looks like you too. ;) I'm happy you were able to spend this past weekend with Joe. Maybe I can stir up some new drama in my life and when you tell Joe about it, it'll be like a new show he laughs at with his co-workers and then his time over there will fly on by!! heh heh... Anyway, I loved all these pics and love you all, too.

The cake/pie with the candle was bitter sweet! So happy you had some time with Joe alone...and that he had some play time with the kids.

You all remain in our prayers:)

So sweet...Fabulous pictures. My heart breaks for you all. I hope things change and that the military serviceman and women don't have to go on so many deployments. They sure didn't have to during VietNam. God be with you all!

Some many things to be thankful for. You all look so cute. In the short time I have known you I cannot believe how fast Kayla and Lucas have grown. They are such adorable children and full of the best smiles.

On a side note, and I hate to be so glum, but I had tears just reading this post. I can't imagine what you and your family are feeling at this point, before Joe leaves. You are all very brave.
