"Meet Annie"

Meet Annie is an adorable book written by Heather J. Scharlau-Hollis, who has a daughter with Down syndrome. Annie has Down syndrome and she describes all the way she is "just like you." This is an easy read book for kids and gets the message across that, "We need to understand that we are all different and those differences make us who we are."

Each page shows Annie doing or feeling something, and then has a question for the reader - I like how that engages the reader to think about things too. For instance one page says, "I love to play with my toys just like you. I like my balls and baby dolls best. What is your favorite toy?" Kayla's answer is "blocks" (since when?!)

Kayla really likes this book - I've lost track of how many times she's asked us to read it!

Heather did a great job on her book and I can't wait to see what she writes next!

Speaking of books - I used Random.org to pick the winner for The Stay-At-Home Survival Guide and it was My Four Sons - congrats!

That sounds like a great book! Self-awareness is such an important step in self-determination. Michelle, you are raising a strong young woman, I can tell already! :-) As our girls approach the age of FIVE!

What a great book Michelle :)

As you can tell, I'm finally back home in the states, it was a great vacation but it does feel good to be around my stuff again.

Can't believe how big your little one is getting, good grief.

Hugs,
Sandra

Looks like a great book. Kids books that talk about difference and the positive side of it are needed more than ever at young ages. Somehow I think it really helps when their own biases start cropping up.

I'm just checking out your blog for the first time and absolutely love it. Such a variety of posts. Of course the DS posts are interesting to me since I'm new to this scene, but he Friday Freebies are awesome, too. I can't wait to sign up for all the free stuff later tonight.
