Because It's Not All Bad

In my post Broken Record it sounded as if all I do is tell Kayla "no" all day long. Sometimes it sure does seem that way; but I know there are some good times mixed in as well!

When she would get off the bus after school she would run up to the stroller and say "hi Lucas!" or "Lucas look! A sticker!" as she put her arm in to show him the sticker on her hand. I didn't even get a hug from her anymore...it was all about Lucas.

She likes showing him things - if she's wearing a new shirt, or she put on a necklace or bracelet, she runs up to him saying "Lucas look!"

If she sees little spit bubbles on his mouth she'll say "oh no! Spit up!" and she runs to get the burp cloth and wipes his mouth.

If she hears him fussing through the baby monitor she'll tell me "mommy get Lucas please."

She'll pat his head and tell him "aaww Lucas, it's fine, don't cry."

She'll put a ball in his hand and when he rolls/throws it to her (lets go of it) she'll clap "yay Lucas!"

She loves when he does any little thing that she can interpret as playing/interacting with her. I've managed to get a couple of these incidents on video.

She was lying on the floor with him and had her hand directly under his head. His head bobbed down and his mouth landed on her arm. She thought it was so funny and wanted him to do it again. In the video she's pointing to arm saying "arm, please now." or "hand please."

Several weeks ago Lucas started the "grabbing" stage (watch out for your hair!). She was again lying on the floor within grabbing distance and he grabbed a fistful of her hair. She pulled back, he didn't let go, she laughed and laughed. She thought it was hysterical that he had a hold of her hair. I wish I took a video of her laughing that first time, but I wasn't prepared. They were on the floor a few days later and she wanted him to grab her hair again, so this time I got out the camera.

The second part of the video is just a taste of what is to come - the older sibbling doing silly things to the younger sibling!

So...it's not all bad!

She is soooo cute! I know I've said it before, but still, she is! When my youngest two were little they would get along great--IF I could stay out of it! lol. It sounds like Kayla and Lucas are doing great. I hope you have a great summer all together--at least that the good far outweighs the bad.

Awww.. Michelle that brought tears to my eyes. How wonderful it is to see a sister and a brother love each other so much.

Issa wakes up in the morning and she can only say one thing... LaLa (She's actually the one who coined the nickname.)... she dotes on her, kisses her and all around adores her. I can't wait to watch them grow up and interact.

I think Lucas and LaLa are about a month apart. Lucas was born in February right? LaLa was born January 9th.

The videos warm my heart so much!

Take care!
Suzanne

You know, I can totally relate. I feel like we're constantly saying, "No" to Snuggle Bug all day long since Boo joined our family. I hate that! But, like you mention in this post, it's not all bad. There are moments of true affection and playfulness between the two kids that I love to see. :)

Loved the video. Thanks for sharing!

My daughter and I were watching the vid and she was fascinated- she has a great thing for babies! Very cute!
As for the saying no issue- I find it comes/goes in chunks and signifies an intense learning period/ developmental shift. She is experimenting and I am adjusting to her new level of independence and during those periods is when I feel like all I do is say no!

You know what? Kayla is going to be Lucas' greatest teacher! When he graduates from school he's going to thank not one mom but two! :D This makes me long for a sibling for Aaron but it won't happen. Wahhhh!! :)

Lucky for Lucas that the lifelong president of his fan club lives in his house! They are adorable together and from what I see of Lucas's response thus far, the admiration is mutual.

She is so adorable. My four year old is adoring to his baby sister as well. It just warms my heart. I love your videos. I need to figure out how to add some to my site. Anyway, you mentioned that Kayla might need glasses. Check out this website for glasses designed for DS kids, by a mom. If she needs them, these look great and are designed for our kiddo's faces. http://www.specs4us.com/index.html

How absolutely precious! I smiled through the entire video. Kayla is so gentle and no doubt Lucas will grow up to love his big sister like no one else. As she cares for him now, he will one day do the same for her.
Thanks for sharing,
Nancy

Abi was giggling right along with Kayla. FYI-you will be amazed at what bad habits are funny to older siblings( pullng hair), Abi and her brothers "play fight" punching on another...not so funny when it is not your sibling and the other person doesn't know that game...the boys also think it is super funny when she burps so now she does it whenever they have any friend over. You really can't get too mad though :) They are cute when they interact so well.

Hi Everyone! Kayla and Lucas are getting so big, Michelle. I loved listening to Lucas coo. So sweet. I would have a hard time keeping my hands off of him too!

Kayla is going to teach him all kinds of cool things and it's obvious how much she loves him too.

I hope your summer is off to a great start!
