Grains of Gratitude

This is the last Sunday that I'll have a 3-year old in the house! I can't believe next Sunday Kayla will be FOUR years old! Sigh...

Joe was gone overnight (left yesterday) to compete in a triathlon in Roswell (about 2.5 hrs away). They should be in the middle of it now, so good luck honey!

What I'm grateful for this past week:

1. Remember last Sunday I mentioned going to the BX's anniversary celebration? Well they had a bunch of drawings to enter. On Monday I was called - I won a certificate to have a set of BDU's dry cleaned for free. Joe doesn't actually use the cleaners for his uniforms, he just washes and irons them himself. But this will be nice for him to take one set in and have it done for free - one less uniform to worry about!

2. For companies that send you free products/samples! If you're not a member of Vvocalpoint yet, go sign up! They periodically send you free samples and coupons. For Mother's Day I received some Olay samples. This week I just received the Gillette Venus Breeze - and I didn't even have to sign up for it. I just received it for being a member.

3. On Tuesday our base had "Family Day" so Joe was off - it was nice to have him home for 2 days last week (since Wednesday was a holiday). On Tuesday the base also celebrated the 4th. They always do this the day before the 4th (maybe so as not to compete with the events that go on in town?). Anyway, there is free food, and we won't talk about how Joe and Jim made us late and the hamburgers, hot dogs, and pulled pork sandwiches were all gone...and you just don't do that with a hormonal, hungry, pregnant woman! They were just lucky there was still bbq chicken, baked beans, potato salad, and watermelon! :) There were door prize drawings (bummer we didn't win anything!) and games for the kids, plus lots of free things for the kids (from Oriental Trading). They cap it all off with fireworks that evening.

Kateyln and Kayla wearing headbands - one of the many free things the kids got!

The girls waiting for the fireworks: (Kayla just loved the glow stick thingy and even had to go to bed with it that night!)

Kayla wasn't so sure what to think about the fireworks at first - she didn't like them when they first started (too loud) but warmed up after a few minutes.

4. We had a nice 4th over at Jim and Jennifer's house for a bbq. Jennifer made the Southwestern Stuffed Burgers (that I posted in Favorite Ingredient Friday post) and they were so good! I'm still in denial that they will be gone by the end of the year ... we have so much fun with this family! Jim is with Joe today participating in the triathlon too.

5. Ok this didn't actually happen this past week, but I couldn't very well post this picture in the Sunday following the week that it happened, because our parents didn't even know yet! So now that the word is out, I'm most definitely grateful for
I just can't explain the relief and happiness I felt when I saw those two lines! Thank you God for blessing us with this pregnancy!

Thanks to Christine for starting the Grains post.

Sounds like your having a nice summer. I'm sorry to hear your friends are moving away that is sad. When I read #5 I have to say I got a little misty eyed. I'm so very happy for you and especially for Kayla because now she will have a sibiling someone to grow up with. The bond my children have is one of the most beautiful things.

I always say those two lines don't just say your expecting, but they are the two lines that plan the next twenty years. Such a small symbol of something so significant. Congrats. Thanks for sharing your glimpses of gratitude.

Happy birthday, Kayla. My 1-year old, too, is having his birthday this week.

"How old are you?" I ask my 1-year old.

"Two," he shouts, showing me one finger.

Oh well.
