Grains of Gratitude
This week I'm grateful for friendships!
1. There is an exercise on base for two weeks. My friend Sue's husband is working nights and Sue has a class on base Mon and Wed evenings. So we watched her son last week, and will probably need to this week as well. I'm grateful Kayla and Harrison get a long so well! They even made up their own game. For some reason Kayla put her head inside the cabinet on her kitchen; not sure if she was trying to hide or what. But it was just her head in there and the rest of her body laying out on the ground. Harrison came over and started tickling her back and she just laughed and laughed. Then she got out and told him it was his turn...so he stuck his head in the cabinet and she tickled his back. They went back and forth on this for several minutes; it was cute to watch. Of course I videotaped it, but my battery died just as he was tickling Kayla...oh well...you can still get an idea of their 'game!'
2. I'm grateful my husband is such a nice guy! On Wednesday I had a spouse's meeting to go to and Joe was nice enough to babysit Harrison so Sue could go to the meeting after her class.
3. Since our husbands were working late because of the exercise, Jennifer and I took Katelyn and Kayla to the Community Center on Friday for "Family Bingo Night" (free!) with prizes for the kids. After bingo they had a taco bar (free!) and then a few games for the kids. There were also confetti-filled pinatas. I'm grateful it was confetti-filled so there wasn't chaos and fighting amongst the kids trying to grab all the candy. They did have "goodie bags" for all the kids so they could each go home with something. Much better solution! Jennifer and I then took the girls upstairs to play in the Kids Zone for an hour. Our husbands were grateful because by the time they got home from work they had a couple hours to themselves!
4. I'm also grateful that we went to the Family Bingo because I was able to see Kayla and a friend from school playing together. I don't get to see her with the other kids in school and it was nice to get a peek of them interacting together. We were sitting at our table when this little boy walked by with his dad. He spotted Kayla and got so excited; he had a big smile on his face. He was pointing at Kayla and telling his dad, "Dad it's Kayla! That's Kayla! There's Kayla!" So I told her she could get down and say hi. They gave each other a hug and then just ran around laughing together. He kept taking her hand and leading her off somewhere. It was just a a nice moment watching them together. It was nice to see her with someone who wasn't a "ready-made friend" (meaning kids of my friends so they automatically hang out and play together!) And this little boy isn't even in Kayla's preschool class - he's in the class next door. The 2 classes have breakfast together, and go to the playground together (and maybe the library and gross motor group together) but that's about it. It warmed my heart how excited he was to see and play with Kayla...and Kayla just as excited to see him.
5. I'm grateful for German Deli . A friend of mine sent me some Ferrero Kinder Happy Hippo for Christmas (oh my goodness those are absolutely delicious!)and I've been wanting to buy some more ever since. I finally got around to doing that with this site, but they have a minimum order and I wasn't about to order $25 worth! So Jennifer and I went in on an order together. She bought some bratwurst and I bought another brand of bratwurst. On Saturday we went over for a 'bratwurst taste-test bbq' to try out the different brats and see which ones we liked better. We played Scattegories while the girls just played. Fun times!

Great list Michelle. Sounds like a fun week! Kayla is getting so big!
How sweet to hear and see the children giggling...such fun to be had by little ones!
:)
It's fun to read your blog because I can live vicariously though you - you have a full social calendar! Bratwurst. Yummmmm!
I think it's wonderful all the family events you get to go to. I'm sure it's lots of fun for all of you.
Indeed, so much busyness makes me feel such a slug. I shall endeavour to do better next week.
Best wishes
Love your post Michelle! The kids laughter is so precious. You are incredibly busy with all your frieds - that's wonderful. We live about 15-20 minutes from the base so it's going to be harder for Olyvia and I to get involved as much as we'd have liked to. We're down to only one car, so Steve will be taking it to work/school everyday.
Hope to hear from you soon.

You've had a wonderful week! I always loved watching my kids play with others when they were so little. The games they come up with on their own don't make sense to us, but they sure do enjoy them!
side note from a lurker: that german deli site has recipes...try the pretzels. They're the best ever, period.
been having fun browsing your blog, keep it up!
