Wondertime

I have a subscription to Wondertime magazine. I really enjoy the articles and read it from cover to cover.

One of the regular features they have is an "Instant Journal...Take a few minutes to jot down some telling details about your child at this moment in time. He'll love hearing about himself as early as next week; you'll love having this for years to come."

So even if you're not keeping a journal, or baby book, for your child anymore you can do this and have something to preserve those memories. Each issue has one page with a few questions on them that you can quickly fill out, then tear the page (it's perforated) out of the magazine to file away.

Here are some questions from the last few months that you can take and make your own journal with. Answer a few questions at a time so they aren't all from the same date.

What made your child laugh today?
What's the current goodnight ritual for you and your child?
Make a list of your child's favorite...friends, books, phrases
What catches your child's attention during a walk with you?
What is your child's favorite outfit right now?
Make a list of your child's favorite...ice cream flavors, outdoor hiding places, ways to cool off
What songs does your child like to sing - or like to hear you sing?
What new skill has your child developed recently?
Make a list of your child's favorite...stuffed animals, jokes or riddles, foods
What holiday story or tradition has captured your child's imagination?
What gift or gesture extended by your child to someone else made you smile?
Make a list of your child's favorite...holiday songs, presents, decorations, relatives
What is your child's favorite task to help with? How does s/he help?
Write the names of all the people your child says love him/her.
Make a list of your child's favorite...animals, colors, breakfasts, nicknames (their own, a sibling's, Mom's, Dad's).

In other news: why does it always happen this way? Yesterday I had to wake Kayla up at 7:15 to get ready for school (she usually wakes up about 7). This morning is Wed, there is no preschool on Wed (hello that means "sleep in"!) and she wakes up at 640. I brought her back to my bed, but she just wouldn't fall back to sleep. Never fails.

Happy Valentine's Day! Kayla and I enjoyed some leftover chocolate pancakes from Sunday's breakfast.

That sounds like a cool mag! I love those questions. They're similar to what I try to do with Rylan's monthly letters for his scrapbook.

I love this idea and thanks for the heads up about this magazine. I've never heard about it. Your daughter is just precious. I can't seem to get my kids up in the mornings-complete opposite here.

I am the worst mom ever! I have 1! page of M.s scrapbook done (she is 6) and I didn't even buy a babybook for L.! I suck! I am just proud of myself for getting the pictures in albums. But that is a great idea, and I am going to write down the answers to those questions. Thanks for sharing!

Happy Valentine's Day! Those pancakes sound yummy!

Happy Valentine's Day!

I am always on the look-out for great magazines. I rarely have time to read a book so I do magazines for now. Thanks for the link! Oh, and I am enjoying the Opinionated Parent blog that you linked to a little while back. You are so on top of stuff!

That is a wonderful idea, and I promise you, years from now you will be so happy you did it. You think you will remember all those special little moments, but somehow you just don't.
I think it is one of those unwritten "child-laws" - no sleeping in when Mom can sleep in too.
Happy Valentine's Day!!

I know what you mean. My 3-year old, although he has yet to go to school, always knock-knocks my head in the morning ... literally.

Have a great Valentine's Day.

That is such an awesome idea (the journal that is..hehe). :) I don't have any children (although in a few years, you never know!) but I have been thinking more and more lately that I'd love to start making real journals to be able to pass down to my children, who can pass down to their own...etc etc. The reason is that I never knew any of my great grandparents, and I barely know anything about my grandparents. Things like what they were like before they had kids, their hopes and dreams. I think it would be awesome to have something like that to pass on to the generations. :)

Hope you have a great Valentine's Day! :)

That is a great list. The kids ere looking thru their baby books yesterday, coincidentally...I realized I'd let a lot of time go by without filling-in. I have some catching up to do while I still remember...

Such valuable advice! Wish I would have taken more time jotting it down but it always seemed we were so busy living it!

Life is just that way, you finally get a chance to sleep in and ooh la la! Little Kayla is raring to go! lol

I love Wondertime, too, but like Miranda, I didn't get a subscription. I still buy it on occasion - and I LOVE those questions that you've posted! I'm going to do that with my kids today, I think.

I don't get that either. Even though I always wake up at 6 am (rarely at 7 am over weekends) the kids always seem to wake up early on weekends and then I need to battle to get them up in the week. I wish for their sakes that they would sleep in over weekends ;)
