Grains of Gratitude

Wow has it already been a week since New Year's Eve? Sure doesn't seem like it! Ok so what's been going on this week that I'm grateful for? Hmmm.....Let's see....

1. My inlaws left on Tuesday. No that's not what I'm saying I'm grateful for! I could have handled a couple more days!! (hahaha...love you MIL and FIL!) What I'm grateful for is they had a safe trip back home and didn't encounter the bad weather they had when they arrived!

2. The military gives you an annual clothing (uniform) allowance (money) in the paycheck that your anniversary date (the date you joined) falls on. Joe's date is in the middle of Dec. I'm grateful for that because that means his Jan 1 paycheck contained some extra money - very nice to get after the holidays!

3. Joe had to go into work yesterday - for 6 hrs no less. I'm not grateful for that; actually I felt bad for him having to spend most of his Saturday at work. Our Saturday was supposed to be this - Kayla and I were going to a joint birthday party that afternoon while Joe stayed home to study his PFEs and CDCs (military study materials - he's testing for his next rank at the end of Feb). Since he was at work for 6 hrs he was able to get some studying in that way so he could go to the birthday party with us (he knows all the parents that were going to be there - so he got to hang out and have some cake, ice cream, and pizza too) :)

4. My brother left for Afghanistan earlier this week. I'm grateful we got an email yesterday that said he arrived safely; it's freezing there, but he arrived safely. On a side note - if you wouldn't mind keeping him in your prayers that he arrives safely back home in a few months, it would be appreciated!

5. I'm grateful for this time off of school for winter break. When Kayla wakes up I bring her back into bed with me and we snuggle and go back to sleep. It's been nice sleeping in and not rushing around in the morning getting ready for school. (But I am ready for school to start tomorrow - I'll just miss the snuggling/sleeping in!)

I really enjoy your "Grains of Gratitude" posts Michelle. They just bless me. I will certainly pray for your brother. Please convey our thanks to him and your husband for the job they do for us. We thank them with all our hearts.
Have a blessed week.

I love snuggling with the kids on their days off too. It's just so nice to fall asleep that way. I will definitely say a prayer about Mike. Lani just asked me about him the other day. Weird. I know Joe is studying hard. I will pray that he makes it this year.
love you

My prayers will certainly be with your brother that he stays safe overseas and that he comes home safely also!! I can just imagine how much you love snuggling with Kayla in the mornings:-) Back to school for the children over here too tomorrow so I think a lot of parents will be sighing in relief!! lol

What a nice post, Michelle. All of these are such nice things to be grateful for. I'll pray for your brother. Such a scary place for him to be, I know, but I'll keep him and all our troops in my prayers.

Your snuggle mornings with Kayla sound lovely. It will probably take a few days to get back into the school routine but how nice to have had all this relaxed time together.

Our school starts back tomorrow, too. We skipped church today and stayed in our PJ's all day, just to soak up some last quality-family time before going back to the hectic normal pace. It's nice to do once in a while! Your brother will be in my thoughts, as all our servicemen and women, and their families, constantly are.

Great grains of gratitude Michelle. Glad you were able to enjoy time with your In-laws, very nice. I still miss the snuggling part with my daughter, and she is a big girl with her own hubby now. lol

I will pray your brother stays out of harms way and that your hubby passes and gets his promotion! We have a friend going over for 18 months in March and another cousin of mine who is due to come home. :)

I loved reading this.
My husband was in the military the first three years of our marriage...I almost forgot about the uniform allowance and all! (I also remember him having to have ship duty every six days, which meant he was gone all day and slept on the ship that night...ahhh, the memories!) ;)

I will keep your brother in my prayers!
Blessings!
