Treasure Tuesday

My treasure isn't something I've had passed down to me, it's not something that's been in my life long, it's not something that is sentimental or something I can look at and will evoke memories of times past...it's the Buddy Walk!

I know I've made a couple of posts about the Buddy Walk, and just did a post with our pictures, but I realized this is a treasure to us. This is something that will be a permanent fixture in our lives for years to come, even if, like this last one, we had to drive just over 2 hrs away to attend.

I first heard of the Buddy Walks when Kayla was just over a month old. I went online to see if there was one near us and the closest one was in Las Cruces, 45 min away. It was their first one and we didn't really know what to expect but we figured we might as well start going to these Walks! Kayla was just shy of being 3 months old.

The next year we didn't see a Walk listed for Las Cruces so we checked other surrounding cities and found that El Paso, Tx was having their first Walk. Ok it's 1.5 hrs away, but let's go! We went there for 2 yrs and then unfortunately they had to cancel their Walk this year. Back to checking online for another walk! Found the one in Roswell which is just over 2 hrs away, still doable though!

What makes these Walks a treasure to me is that they are a true celebration...a celebration of, for, and about individuals with Down syndrome. It's a treasure to see the communities, families and friends come together to celebrate and embrace someone they know with Down syndrome.

I can't think of a nicer treasure than the one you've posted today! It's organized events such as these that bring so much hope and understanding to others.

Bravo to you for succeeding in your Buddy Walk!

THat's a beautiful treasure - and it might not be a sentimental memory now, but someday it will be one for your family and for Kayla.

What a great treasure Michelle! I loved all your pictures, and I'm so thrilled that you guys made your goal, and had so many friends and family walk with you. It is especially meaningful that your friends who couldn't be with you, walked at a different Buddy Walk in Kayla's name. I love it!!!

Hi Michelle,
Thanks for stopping by to wish me a Happy Birthday!
I enjoyed reading about your Buddy Walk. We walk every year in the Relay for Life, which is done to raise money for the American Cancer Society..
Both excellent causes, I'd say!!

Michelle, there is strength in numbers. I don't think any of us ever can really imagine how God works to bring our lives full circle, but there we are, touching one anothers lives in ways we don't even fully understand. Making a difference, or inspiring someone, or healing yet another. You and your family are so wonderful! Thanks for being there!

This is a great treasure even if your last 10 posts had been about the Buddy Walk. It's good that you were able to find the one in Roswell with a "doable" distance of travel. I see from your ticker you're still getting donations... And you didn't think you'd make your goal...

The Buddy Walk is certainly a treasure...I love events like these that prove how family and friends can get together to fight for something they believe in and help that cause!!

You couldn't have chosen a nicer treasure, Michelle. The Buddy Walk is one of the most encouraging things I've heard of in ages. I know how much it means to you so you chose well.

Let me get this right.

You drive for two hours—in traffic, perhaps; till your butt says no more, for sure. Then you park, go down and walk for miles under the sun. Then you emerge from all these and call it a celebration.

Hmm.

You must really, really be what my 3-year old calls as a super, super sonic person. :)

BTW, love the Kayla and Daddy picture. Perfect.
