Grains of Gratitude

Time to list 5 things I'm grateful for!

1. Our insurance! At times Tricare can be difficult to deal with, but when I look at the big picture I'm really grateful for this insurance. We generally see doctors at the clinic on base, but if we need to go off base we get a referral. We have no co-pays, no out-of-pocket expenses. This week I received 2 statements in the mail from Kayla's cardiac catheterization. The statements totaled $12,405 - for an outpatient procedure! Tricare paid $6857 (their allowable amount) and we paid nothing. Not only that, but this was done in a city 3 hrs away so Joe was put on a medical TDY for the 2 nights we were authorized to be there. Which meant he received per diem - to include lodging, meals and mileage. Yeah, I'm grateful!

2. Kayla didn't have school for 3 days last week. Although she didn't sleep in, I'm grateful we didn't have to rush around in the morning to go meet the bus! A couple times she would say, "uh oh! Bus!" and I had to tell her that we weren't going to meet the bus that day.

3. Kayla had an ENT appointment last week to check on the tubes in her ears. 4 months ago at a check up we found out one of the tubes came out, but there was no fluid so it was ok. This time both of the tubes are now out and her tympanogram(sp?) on the right ear was flat. A flat tympanogram indicates fluid in the ear and usually the next step would be another set of tubes. However, the ENT didn't see any fluid in her ear. He said there could be a very small amount but it's so insignificant because he can't see it and it doesn't look infected. She had a cold and was congested so that could have contributed to it. As of right now she doesn't need tubes. We go back in 4 months to check again, at that time it's possible there could be more fluid and she will need tubes after all, but I have 4 months to not worry about it!

4. It was mostly nice weather last week - not too hot anymore and a nice breeze blowing. After Kayla's ENT appointment I decided on the spur of the moment to take her to the zoo. We had a great time!

5. Grateful that my best friend, whom I haven't seen in 2 years, will be here tomorrow for a week-long visit! Yay! Have a safe trip Nisa!

If you've written a gratitude list as well please stop by and let Christine of Brady's Bunch know that you've participated!

Michelle - that is wonderful news about the insurance. Wonderful and insurance do not often go together. And how fun to have an impromptu trip to the zoo. Any pics?

WOW that is very lucky about the insurance...we are not so lucky. Aviva had tubes too, unfortunately she still had such horrible ear infections (but jsut one ear). Had did help drain the fluid.

Enjoy the time with your best friend...have a blast!

HUGS!

Yes, zoo pictures are so much fun! (I LOVE the zoo!)
I want you to know that I made pancakes this morning! I NEVER (and I do mean never) cook...but you (& Joe!)inspired me to start a Sunday breakfast! It was just pancakes (I made a chocolate chip one for Jack and he thought it was a cookie! He loved it!), but it was nice to sit down and eat breakfast together.

That's sure a relief to know the insurance could cover mostly everything!! Glad to hear Kayla doesn't need the tubes in her ears right now...my nephew had those when he was smaller and they were forever falling out. To this day he still has problems with his ears, poor boy! Did you take any pictures of Kayla at the zoo??:-) Can you tell I love seeing pictures of her? lol Have a greatttt time with your friend tomorrow!! Hugs!

Michelle, Tri Care is so nice, My Mom has that insurance too and it far surpasses what we have. You can really count your blessings with that one! Glad that Kayla's ears checked out with her tubes coming out. Love the zoo...What is Kayla's favorite animal? We want to see pics!

Hope you have a great time with your friend Nesa! :)

Nice that you do not have co-pay and they take good care of you and your family. Being new to the US, I never knew the importance of simplicity!

Hehe I can imagine not having to rush around as a blessing, I wonder how I will ever get out of my PJ's before 9 am!

YAY for no more tubes! (even for the moment!)

The weather is great here too! w00t!

Have a wonderful visit!!!

It is one of the few benefits that the military offers!! so much has been taken away and military personel/families struggle with finances because the pay is not up to par...I am glad you did not have to come up with out of pocket expenses!!! Hopefully, Kayla will not have to have the tubes replaced at all!!! I am so happy that Eunice will be visiting!!! Have a great week and have a fun time... I like the "spur of the moment" times. They are the best and one seems to always remember those times the most!!! Way to go Michelle... love mom

You are so smart to think about the things you're grateful for each week. Life is so much better when we don't take things for granted.
