Little Things

Here are just a few of the little things Kayla does that make me smile and laugh.

She's all about sharing. Especially when we go for a walk. For some reason whenever she is out walking she has to pick up a small twig/stick for her walk. We have to have one too. She'll find one, pick it up and say "here mommy/daddy." (And don't bother trying to throw it down because she'll just give you another one.) Sometimes she's even particular about which hand you hold it in. One time I took the stick from her in my right hand and switched it to my left. She immediately took it out of my left hand and held it out to my right hand. She does the same thing with rocks. Sweet isn't it?

If I cut up some apple slices and hand her one, she'll point at the countertop and say "mommy apple!" Same thing if I give her a cracker, "mommy cracker!" So everytime she has a snack I get to have one too. Hmmm....maybe that's why I can't loose these last 10 lbs!

I don't remember when Joe and I started doing this, but it was probably around the time she started walking. You know how that stage is - lots of falling down, stumbling, tripping, bumping into things. Instead of running over to her we would wait to see her reaction (unless of course she obviously hurt herself) and then we would ask "are you ok?" We also do this when she's eating or drinking and starts coughing. She started answering us back with "kay." Sometimes if she hurt herself enough where she would cry real tears and need a snuggle we would snuggle and after a few minutes ask if she was ok. She would pause in her crying, and with a hitch in her voice say "k-k-kay" and resume crying. You just had to smile.

She beats us to the punch now. Anytime she falls etc she'll say "uhkay" before you can even ask her. After she's done coughing she'll look at us and say "uhkay."

Her latest thing is "ouch." We had been trying to teach her if she got hurt to show us where on her body it hurt. She would only sign hurt but wouldn't show us if it was her finger, toe etc. So I started saying "ouch" anytime she did something, or I did something, and show her where it hurts, then I would give her a kiss. Now every little thing, and I do mean EVERYTHING is an "ouch." She'll hold out her hand, finger, leg, foot, head for a kiss on the "ouch."

Last night I was sweeping the dining room floor and she wanted to help. (Note to grandparents - if you could find a child-size play broom that would be a great idea for her birthday! But if one of you does buy this please let me know so we don't end up with 10 of them!) She was pulling out a chair and I heard "ouch, ouch ouch." (I think she stubbed her toes.)

I turned around and there she sat on the floor bringing her foot up to her mouth to give it a kiss.

How could I not smile at that?

She's so cute! The injured foot made me giggle... I remember when my oldest daughter was all about sharing, and would very nicely try to share candy that she'd been chewing for a while. No, thank you.

She's such a little sweetheart and I can just picture her saying Ouch and kissing her own toes! hehe Precious moments like these always stay in our minds and hearts. My boys are grown now but I still remember like it was yesterday, some of the things they did or said when they were little:-)

LOL! Matthew has been a self-healer (as we call it) for awhile now - kisses himself for every little boo boo, no matter how big. Kisses from us too. And him too, on the give-him-a-cookie-must-have-one-for-mommy-too part! LOL!

What a sweet story. So many times when I read about Kayla I imagine what Miss E may be like at her age....by the way we are getting close to both of their birthdays!

I hope you have a wonderful Thursday!

What an adorable post!

Snuggle Bug loves to help sweep. We bought him a child-sized broom and dust pan at Toys R Us for about $5.00 and he loves it. I'll have to email you a picture of him sweeping!

kissing a boo boo just seems to do wonders for it. We are all about kissing the boo boos too. How wonderful it would be if we could kiss the boo boos away when they get older. How nice that she is into sharing! She is such a cutie.....

She does sound amazing!
We also have the rocks/sticks from our walks thing. I put on my spring jacket just a few months ago (after having not worn it for so many cold months) and smiled when I found the pockets full of rocks.
