Love This Quote - EKS Day

Love this quote from Eunice Kennedy Shriver:

We started out Eunice Kennedy Shriver Day (EKS Day) with cheering Kayla on at her Miracle League game. How appropriate is that? A league where kids with all different abilities can enjoy a good old fashioned game of baseball. Where every kid gets a chance to hit, run the bases, and score a run. Exactly what Eunice Kennedy Shriver stood for.



Ok, Kayla spent most of the game playing with Gabby, but it was still a nice way to start our morning!


We ended the day by participating in the 6th Annual Museum Day and checked out a local plantation - Drayton Hall.

This Saturday, the 25th, marks the first-ever, annual global Eunice Kennedy Shriver Day.

Special Olympics will celebrate the inspiration, impact and indomitable spirit of Eunice Kennedy Shriver by inspiring current and emerging leaders to be architects of change with passion and purpose. Just as EKS was one woman leading efforts for the 200 million citizens with intellectual disabilities, today our call to action begins with you.

EKS Day was developed to celebrate Eunice Kennedy Shriver's five key values:

• Love: EKS deeply loved her intellectually disabled sister, Rosemary, and she loved sport;
• Justice: EKS became furious about the neglect and indifference she saw toward Rosemary and others with intellectual disabilities;
• Faith: EKS strongly believed that everyone counts;
• Hope: EKS believed in the possibilities of persons with intellectual disabilities, which fuels hope in all of us to make a difference;
• Courage: EKS demonstrated an unrelenting indomitable spirit in action that one person could change the world.

There are three components to EKS Day:

• Play: A day of Sports clinics and Unified Sports activities to commemorate Eunice Kennedy Shriver's belief in building greater equality through organized athletics.
• Build: Dedication of new and renovated athletic facilities and or sports Unity fields in Eunice Kennedy Shriver's honor.
• Join: An online effort to educate people about the EKS story, our movement and the urgent needs of people with intellectual disabilities around the world, and to solicit their support and involvement through the commitment of EKS Acts of inclusion and acceptance for and with persons with intellectual disabilities.

Celebrate the life and legacy of Eunice Kennedy Shriver by participating in EKS Day Acts. EKS Acts are actions or activities that promote inclusion, acceptance and unity for and with people with intellectual disabilities.
