World Down Syndrome Day

Just some bits and pieces and links and videos about World Down Syndrome Day.

My status on FB this morning: Down syndrome = Trisomy 21 = 3 copies of the 21st chromosome = 3/21 = March 21 = World Down Syndrome Day! I thought that would be a quick explanation of what Down syndrome and Mar 21 have in common and why this is World Down Syndrome Day!

A message from the UN Secretary General (in part)

"On this day, let us reaffirm that persons with Down syndrome are entitled to the full and effective enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms.  Let us each do our part to enable children and persons with Down syndrome to participate fully in the development and life of their societies on an equal basis with others.  Let us build an inclusive society for all."

Rep Cathy McMorris Rodgers, also co-chair of the Congressional Down Syndrome Caucus gave this speech on the Floor this morning:

ALL donations made to Plus 15 will be matched 3:1 today. What a great way to stretch your donation dollars! A $25 donation turns in to $100! Won't you join me in making a donation for Down syndrome cognition research? And just a reminder that I'm donating $1 for every comment left on this post.

Patti is hosting a giveaway/fundraiser to Save Albina - an orphan w/Down syndrome in Eastern Europe who has a family in the process of adopting her. You could win the newest version of the Ipad, a Canon EOS Rebel T3, or a $500 Amazon gift card - among other prizes!

I made this video for Kayla's 8th birthday, but wanted to share it again today, because I feel the message still applies ... she is perfect the way she is.
