Fresh Air Fund

The Fresh Air Fund needs host families for the 2011 summer season. This is a non-profit agency that provides free summer vacations to New York City children. Last year close to 5000 children visited volunteer host families in suburbs and small town communities across the East Coast and Canada. 3000 children also attended 5 Fresh Air Fund camps in Fishkill, NY.

Host families invite children into their homes for 1 or 2 weeks stays. More than 65% of all children are reinvited to stay with their host family year after year, and sometimes for longer vacations. The majority of the Fresh Air Fund kids are from inner-city families without the resources to take their children on summer vacations. Most of these children grow up in apartment buildings without large, open, outdoor play spaces. The children are registered with participating social service and community organizations located in NYC.

Host families can request the age-group and gender of the kids they would like to sponsor. Read stories from host families here

Host families are needed in 13 Northeastern states and Canada.
