The Fresh Air Fund

Every year the Fresh Air Fund provides thousands of inner city children in New York City opportunities they wouldn't have otherwise. From weekly tutoring sessions to job shadowing and weekend retreats.

Other programs offer a 2-week trip to the country to stay with a volunteer host family or a fun-filled and educational stay at a fun camp.

The majority of children who are served by the Fresh Air Fund are from low income families who can't afford to send their kids to camps or take summer vacations. Most of the kids grow up in apartment buildings without large, open areas to run and play in.

Host families are volunteers who live in the suburbs or small-town communities and they give city children an experience they will never forget. If you live in the New york-area and are interested in becoming a host family you can find more information here.

The Fresh Air Fund operates year round; if you'd like to make a tax-deductible donation to this non-profit organization ($10 will give a child a bus ride to his host family, $24 provides a child a week of swimming lessons.) click here.
