Buddy Walk 2010

The Buddy Walk snuck up on me this year! I think with the move and everything I've just fallen farther behind on everything I was already behind on to begin with!

The local Buddy Walk is this Sun, Oct 3rd and we can't wait!

I can't believe this will be our 8th year going (our first one was in 2003, when Kayla was almost 3 months old.) I still remember the uncertainty I felt about going so soon after her birth; I'm sure I was still digesting the news that my baby has Down syndrome...it was a little overwhelming at first! I think I knew that I needed to be there though, to jump right in to the "Ds world" - this new community we were now a part of. And now? We look forward to going every year! It's a wonderful celebration of individuals with Down syndrome.

Thinking back on the past Buddy Walks we've attended made me realize this will be the 5th state we've attended one in ... NM, TX, MD, VA, and now SC.

If you're new to my blog and aren't aware of what the Buddy Walks are they are walks held all across the nation in the months of Sep and Oct. The Buddy Walk was established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome.

Kayla doesn't quite understand exactly what the Buddy Walk is all about yet, but she does get excited about seeing her Buddy Walk tshirts! She exclaims, "My Buddy Walk shirt! That's for me!" Yes Kayla, it's all about you!
