So...We Bought A House

I mean ... OMG We bought a house!

Yes, the whirlwind-impromptu-house-hunting trip resulted in us buying our first house.

What a busy, crazy, hectic time that was! The day before I left to go back to MD we took another walk around the outside of the house that was at the top of our list. We didn't need to go inside again because we had just come from looking at another house that we realized was the exact same floor plan as this one.

That evening we told our Realtor we were ready to make an offer on that house. We didn't want to procrastinate and wait any longer for fear that it wouldn't be on the market for too much longer.

Good thing we did that too. We found out that same day another Realtor took his clients for their 2nd look at the house as well.

The next morning, before I was driving back to MD, we met with our Realtor to go over the details, and sign, the contract of our offer.

After that I hit the road and a couple hours later found out that this other couple also put in an offer on the house. Ugh. The first time we decide to put an offer on a house, so does someone else. What I imagined was going to be a little negotiating with the sellers was now going to be in competition with another potential buyer.

I didn't realize how stressed, or emotional, this was going to be ... especially the waiting!

So we each submitted our 'final offers' and the nail-biting began. I was hoping to hear something by the time I returned back to MD that evening, but nothing.

Later the next morning Joe called and started off saying "So...do you want me to just start looking..." and I thought he was going to say "for houses in another neighborhood," but he said "for a refrigerator." The fridge in the house was 'negotiable' and I didn't want to get in to negotiating for that so we said they can take their fridge, we'll get our own. So that was Joe's way of telling me...they accepted our offer!

So now all the paperwork fun begins ... with me in MD and Joe in SC. I still can't believe we're buying a house!

Here are some pictures. The pictures from inside the house are NOT from the house we're getting. I didn't think to take pics from inside the first time we walked through. These pics are from the 2nd house we looked at with the same floor plan, so the paint etc is not the same.

Formal living/dining rooms

Master bedroom which is on the first floor. Initially I didn't want a house with the master on the first floor (especially with Kayla's sleeping habits since we've moved) but I'm hoping she'll go back to sleeping through the night in her own bed when we're all together again. There was so much else about the house that we really like, I think (hope!) I can deal with the master being on the first floor!

View from kitchen to family room and out back.

This picture IS from our house (taken from the listing site)

The loft upstairs (to the left is a bedroom, bathroom, and linen closet)

from the other side...2 more bedrooms that way

I like this bedroom with its little 'nook' in the corner.

This IS our house.

I know I am going to enjoy having a screened-in patio with a ceiling fan!

And the pond! Which of course means we'll need to fence the yard; but still...how fun! The kids are going to enjoy taking walks around the pond and seeing ducks, fish, and turtles.

So, that's been our excitement of the month!

Yay! Congratulations. It looks like it's going to be wonderful. The floor plan will be fine. Better that than a 2nd floor master with kid's on the first floor.

I can't wait to see pictures as you move into your house and make it your own.

Congrats again.

Congratulations! I'm so envious of your screened in porch. You'll love it three-quarters of the year until it's so freaking hot you can't stand to be outside.

I love visiting Charleston, and I hope it's a GREAT move for you.

YAYAYAYAY!!!

So happy. What a wonderful thing to have this house out there perfect for you and your family!

You have your own house. It's yours... the kids have their place, the rooms they will decorate and have memories in. You will have a yard, a garage and a place to decorate, to tap your lower lip and wonder... "This color, or that color?"

What a beautiful new step!!

How fantastic! Congrats!

We made our first floor master a bedroom and have our room up by the kids, but mine are both younger. I bet Kayla and Lucas will adjust well. Here's to better sleeping for all. :)

I was just dropping by to see how the house hunt was going, to say I'd hoped you had a good Mothers Day and Wow - you have bought a house! So fast.

We were like that with this house too, saw it one day, bought it within the week...nail biting stuff isn't it?

What a fabulous place - very excited for you, a whole new episode lies ahead.

Really cool guys! I am with Karly in that we turned our "master bedroom" into a guest bedroom/office since we have family that comes to stay alot and made one of the other bedrooms ours. Because our child has similar habits to yours :) and it just worked better for our lifestyle!

Thank you for the encouragement and prayers, Michelle. It WAS hard to put that out there, but I just HAD to put it somewhere...I couldn't take the pain on my own any longer...
