Special Exposure Wednesday - Missing Tooth

5 Minutes for Special Needs

Two weeks ago I noticed Kayla's top front tooth looked a little...odd. Upon closer inspection I noticed that it was a little bit discolored and actually loose. Not loose enough for me to attempt to yank it though. I guess it could have been, I just didn't want to try!

She was messing with it a lot with her tongue, but otherwise didn't seem bothered by it and she was eating fine with it like it was.

Then last week she she woke up and said she needed medicine and when I asked what was wrong she pointed to her mouth. I looked inside and noticed it was very loose now...and there was a little bit of blood.

I wiggled it but thought one side was still hanging on too tight so I didn't want to pull it. Instead I begged my mom to yank it for me - yep I resorted to that!

While my mom and I were standing there debating who was going to do the yanking, Kayla was standing behind me. All of a sudden she called out "My tooth!" and when I turned around there it was in her hand. She took care of that task for me!

And now my first born has lost her first tooth! She was so very excited!

This has brought back a lot of memories for me. Whenever one of us kids had a loose tooth, mom would tie one end of a string to the tooth and the other to the door handle...then she'd slam the door! Yup, seems barbaric now but it always worked and it happened so fast there was no pain! lol I actually remember the neighbourhood moms sending their kids to my mom when they needed a tooth pulled. hehe Kayla looks so sweet with her missing tooth:-) xoxo

How exciting! My son lost his first tooth at preschool, so the teacher sent it home in a plastic baggie. And then he swallowed the next one!!

Yay! I can't bear to do anything with wiggly teeth either. Kayla looks so cute, I love photos of kids smiling with missing teeth.

Cute pics!
I don't like pulling teeth out either. Luckily, my son actually knocked one of his out when he was skipping around the living room and his knee hit his mouth. Then, Gracie pulled another of his out when he made her mad and she reached out and grabbed his mouth taking a tooth with her.

How exciting! We haven't gotten to that milestone yet, but we did read "Toothless Wonder" again this evening.

Perhaps someday!

Ahh, Madame Tooth Fairy will be busy tonight! Liam also lost a tooth, which reminds me....where's my toonie (that's our two dollar coin, in case you haven't been to Canada lately).

You do realize sooner or later you're going to have to handle it, right? It's truly not a big deal, wait until it's ready, grab a kleenex and give a gentle tug. If it doesn't come out have her keep wiggling.

Hope she enjoyed the tooth fairy.

Go Kayla Go! I'm glad she did it on her own. I sure wouldn't have wanted to do that!
