Carly was such a beautiful little girl, full of life, laughter, love, and spunk. I loved reading about her adventures and seeing her pictures. Kayla is close in age to Carly and I imagined they would have such fun together.
I want to do something for Joany, to let her know Carly won't be forgotten. I was thinking about what we, as the Down syndrome community, could do to express how we feel.
I'd like to commission artist Michael Johnson to do one of his paintings/portraits of Carly. Michael Johnson (who happens to have Down syndrome) does beautiful paintings and if you haven't seen his work you're missing out!
He can do individual child portraits with water color, acrylics, or oil paintings and these can be done on canvas, or board, framed or unframed. I think this would be a beautiful gift to send to Carly's family.
You can contribute through paypal... and if you don't have a paypal account there is an option to use a credit card.
Thoughts anyone?
UPDATED: A couple suggestions were made to donate anything in excess to something locally in Carly's name - I think that is a great idea too. Her obituary mentions Pediatric Cardiology at Mott Children's Hospital in Memory of Carly George...so that sounds like a plan to me.
Also, Jasmine has the button on her blog - feel free to grab it as well.

What a super idea. I sent a donation via PayPal.
I think this is an excellent idea and will donate as soon as I'm at home. Don't want to do it from work. The only thought I had in regard to excess, should we consider seeing if there is a local DS organization where Joany lives that we could donate to? I'd love for the money to go to her friends. However, this is your idea think either organizations you suggested are excellent as well.
count me in. I don't have paypal though. Is there another way for me to donate?
beautiful!
This is a wonderful idea! I was trying to think of a way for the DS community to show their family some love.....you came up with a fantastic way! I definitely want to be a part of this! How do you donate to paypal?
That is a wonderful idea - you are awesome!
That is a wonderful idea!
Perfect. Thank you, Michelle!
I want to donate, but am not sure how to do it via paypal unless there is a button to push or link to go to. Can you do a post on where exactly to go?
I was thinking the same thing- what could we do as a DS community to support this family and in honor of their beautiful daughter Carly. Count me in.
Thank you for doing this. Great idea. I'm in!
Fantastic, beautiful idea, Michelle. Thanks for posting the Paypal link, too. :-)
Great idea ... thanks for doing this! When are you collecting through?
Thanks so much Michelle for organizing this...what a wonderful idea. I just made my donation and it was so easy with the paypal button and all.
I am way behind on my blog reading, and just got caught up with yours and saw this post about my niece Carly. What a wonderful gesture, and I know Joany and family will love it and treasure it. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help make this happen. I also recently ran an Avon fundraiser for the children's hospital and will be making a donation in Carly's memory very soon, so that is always an option as well.
