Bambino Buddy Ball

The team shirt and cap that Kayla is wearing in yesterday's post is from Bambino Buddy Ball. It's a division within the Cal Ripkin/Babe Ruth Baseball & Softball League.

The Buddy Ball division is for those with any physical or mental disabilities - for every 'game' they are 'buddied up' with players from the other divisions to help them run the bases, field the ball, throw the ball etc.

I think its a good concept, but I also have mixed feelings about it. Basically there isn't any age limit - it's from ages "5-105" - not that there is anyone that old on the team, but there are a few adult-aged players. I would have preferred it if this was just for kids and the teens/adults had their own team...but we're just trying this out and seeing how it goes.

Last Saturday was Opening Day and after the parade and announcements the Bambino Buddy Ball "Blasters" took to the field for the first 'game' of the day.

Kayla was the first batter:

And then right as she hit it I must have moved to get the fence in the way! Oh well...

Hanging out at 3rd. The ball cap and helmet are too big for her, so the whole time she's running around with her hands holding the helmet.

Scoring the first run of the season:

Her two 'buddies' for this 'game'

Kayla enjoyed batting and running the bases...but not so much being in the field for 'defense'. I'm glad Joe is here this weekend so he can see her 'game' too.

That's very cool. I love that she can play, my kids would have enjoyed it a lot more with buddies too. ;)

That is so cute, but I agree, they should have a kids only league. She looks so happy. So happy Joe could see his little player!
