Life Is Therapy
The idea behind "Life Is Therapy" is "the idea that learning can and does occur most effectively through everyday life experiences at home and out in the community--for children with both typical and special needs."
Lucas is in the midst of potty-training (shhh...don't want to say it too loudly lest I jinx it!) and I'm doing the same with him as we did with Kayla - he gets two mini M&Ms every time he goes in the potty.
As I hold these tiny little M&Ms in my hand and he picks them up one-by-one he is continuing to refine his fine-motor skills. (ok he doesn't need a lot of help in that area now, but Kayla still did!) We also work on color recognition as he tells me the color of each M&M he picks up.

I love the "Life is Therapy" philosophy. It's what we live by here at home. Although we supplement with some therapies, there's so much to see and do in our natural environment that we take advantage of these learning opportunities. BTW, I did the M&M and Skittles rewards w/ my 1st two also. By the time Greta came around (#3), she was a pro from watching everyon elese and didn't need the reinforcements. I wonder what will work with John Michael...
You're such a good mom. :)
I love the idea of "Life is Therapy" too. Therapy can get boring but life never is! Good ideas!
I did the 2 M&Ms with my older daughter, too... and then she started using the potty, like, 7 times a day! Oh well, it worked! :)
mini-M&Ms...clever! :) Should've tried that for my 2. :)
I love it! I just wish that Jack would go for M & M's. We're good for pee pees. Poop....ahhhhhh!
