Munchkin Math

Munchkin Math is a set of 3 DVDs created by a teacher and mom of 3 boys. The DVDs - Shapes, Telling Time, and Counting Money - help teach children early math concepts by using the 3 learning styles - auditory, visual, and kinesthetic.

Munchkin Math enhances math skills by reinforcing concepts like shapes, telling time, and counting money. Each of the 3 DVDs use interactive rhymes, chants, and hand movements to keep kids engaged.

I wasn't sure how much Kayla would be interested in the Telling Time DVD, or if that was a concept she would be ready to learn about. She does like to put on my watch and say it's "8 (or whatever) o'clock" so I hoped this would be a teaching tool that will help her with the concept of time.

She loves this video! It kept her attention, she was focused on it and seemed really interested in the telling time concept and lessons.

I could do without the male wizard that shows up throughout the video, I don't think he's really necessary and the video would be fine without that character, but other than that it's a really engaging video.

The rhymes, chants, and hand movements do help reinforce the lesson...Kayla already repeats, and does the hand movements to (even when the video isn't on) "the 12 is at the top, the 6 is at the bottom..." She's also learned "Hickory Dickory Dock, there are 2 hands on the clock, the hour hand is short, the minute hand is long, hickory dickory dock." I like the tip of remembering which hand is which by saying 'hour' is only 4 letters so it's the 'short' hand and 'minute' is the longer word and the longer hand.

Kayla isn't quite ready for actually telling time yet, but I know this video has her very interested and it will definitely help her develop the skills needed to learn how to tell time.

Counting Money
will be in our DVD library next!

You can see some video clips as seen on Fox News.

“I wrote this review while participating in a blog campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Munchkin Math and received a sample DVD to facilitate my candid review. Mom Central sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.”
