A Good Day, But...

We had a wonderful day in La Plata celebrating the 4th.

It was a watermelon-rolling,

(Lucas getting his sticker)

Flag-waving,

Watermelon-eating,

body-painting,

fireworks-watching kind of day.

But I definitely felt the absence of Joe's presence. I tried to take plenty of pictures so he could see what the kids experienced, but I hate that he's missing out on so much...holidays are hard that way.

I'm glad the kids had a blast though and Kayla enjoyed the fireworks. The first thing she said this morning when she woke up was,"more fireworks!" and I said "oh they're all done." She replied with, "I go ask Mema ok."

I can only imagine how tough holidays are. You sure have a lot of great photos to make sure Joe doesn't completely miss all the excitement.

Soon and very soon-- he'll be here for a brief time. I don't know if the brief visit makes it harder or easier, though.

Hugs, darlin'.

Great photos! Kayla is looking more and more mature. Funny, my mom gave our kids the same shirt from WMart in grey, red, pink and navy, but not white. :-)

New reader here. :-)

It looks like you had a wonderful time, but I can only imagine the space in your heart that felt a bit empty.

We celebrated with a friend and her two small boys. Her husband is deployed in Iraq. Her heart was also a bit empty in the fun of it all.

Thank you for the sacrifices your family is making so that we can live in our freedom! I respect and appreciate it more than you can know!

~hugs~ Thinking about you during Independence Day. I hope the children were enough to distract you for a little while and that Joe knows how much we are all thankful for his service and for your sacrifice you are giving as well.

Take care of yourself and those beautiful children!

Cool. Looks like you all had fun. That is right near where I went to highschool. My dad was stationed at Indian Head.

Wonderful pictures of the kids. Looks like the kids had a great time.

Yes, my brother spent 15 years at Holloman in NM. Maybe Joe knows him. His nickname was "Bull". He ran AMMO!
