Military Appreciation Month

I'm starting off my Memorial Day weekend by going with Kayla on her field trip to the National Zoo - should be a fun time!

I know this month is almost over, but May is National Military Appreciation Month so I thought I'd share a few military-related websites. Click here to find out how different states are participating in honoring the military.

Military OneSource is a one-stop website for just about everything a military family needs. It is for all branches of the military and they have 24/7 support for financial guidance, spouse employment, relocation assistance, counseling, child care, deployment support, and more.

National Military Family Association is full of resources, information, and contests like the Military Family of the Year.

Military spouses can sign up for a My Career Advancement Account and receive up to $6000 in financial assistance for licenses, certifications, and education.

Kayla is still too young for this camp, but Operation Purple sounds like a wonderful camp (ages 7-17) for kids dealing with the stresses of war. The program aims to help military kids experience carefree fun while also learning coping skills to deal with deployment-related stress and fostering relationships with other children who know what they are going through.

I received an email that Old Navy has started offering military discounts - 10% off your purchases on the first of every month.

This isn't military-related, but while I'm sharing some websites, here are a couple sites I recently discovered from Mom Central.

Our household seems to have been hit by allergies - all of us seem to have a scratchy throat and a stuffed up nose. So 3M Filtrete is of interest to me; especially after finding out the EPA studies indicate indoor levels of many pollutants may be two to five times higher than outdoor levels!

This site has a lot of information like tips on a home 'health check up,' sign up for the Clean Air Club and you could win a bamboo plant, enter for a chance to win $10,000 and a home consultation, and submit a photo of your dirty Filtrete filter and receive a new one for free.

If you've ever had a parenting question (and who hasn't?) you can get advice and information from Mamapedia - The Wisdom of Moms. Millions of moms shared their wisdom and advice on a variety of topics such as household, money, health, and relationships and their answers were compiled and organized in this searchable database.

I hope everyone has a nice Memorial Day weekend!

Have fun on the field trip. The National Zoo is my favorite.

That's wonderful that places are doing things to honor the military. You all make an incredible sacrifice for the rest of us. Thank you.

Allergies have been awful here too. I'll have to check that out.
