Special Exposure Wednesday - Kayla's Famous

5 Minutes for Special Needs
Ok it's not so much that Kayla is famous; more like her eyes are. And maybe it's not so much famous; more like featured. And it's not even in the US, but in the UK.

A few weeks ago Rebecca, editor of the British Journal of Hospital Medicine contacted me. The authors of an article on eyes and Down syndrome wanted to use pictures of Kayla from my Characteristics post.

Rebecca was nice enough to send us a couple hard copies of the issue too. It was a bit surreal to open this medical journal and see my daughter's face staring back at me! I showed Kayla and asked her "who's that?" She looked at it for a second and then exclaimed, "Kayla!" I told her she was in a magazine for doctors. The next morning she saw it on the couch, picked it up, and said "doctor Kayla!" She carried it around on and off throughout the day and would ask me to open it to the page with Kayla.

I have a pdf copy of the article, but can't figure out how to get it posted on the blog. You can't view the article online unless you're a subscriber to the British Journal of Hospital Medicine, so these pictures of the pages will have to do...you can click on them to enlarge.

That's very neat to have her in the journal. I'd say it counts as famous. Take what you can get, right? Maybe it will kick-start her modeling career. It's just a matter of time until she will be supporting, you in the lap of luxury. :)

Oh, that's really cool.

I feel like I knew her eyes before they were famous!

(I read some of the article in the picture. I didn't know that the epicanthic folds change with age. Interesting. That's something new I learned today.)

Anyway, congrats to Dr. Kayla!

That is cool...our son has Beckwith-Weideman Syndrome which is consider a cousin to downs...when he was 3 we participated in the National Institute of Health Research Program. They took skin samples from Tanner and blood samples from me and my husband. They said he could be featured in medical journals, but we never heard anything back from them. I just love your blog...your kids are beautiful.
