Remember Gifts?

Remember the book Gifts: Mothers Reflect on how Children with Down Syndrome Enrich Their Lives that I submitted my story to?

The book has won 2 awards! The 2008 National Parenting Publications Awards (NAPPA): Gold Award and the 2008 Mom's Choice Awards: Silver Recipient, Special & Exceptional Needs. Very exciting news!

Gifts Volume II is now accepting stories for publication. Gifts Volume II will include stories that offer other perspectives and experiences. We are especially interested in stories about school-age children, adolescents, and adults. While mothers’ stories in these categories will be considered for inclusion, the collection will emphasize stories written by other family members, friends, and professionals. The deadline for submitting a story is Sep 1, 2008.

Woodbine House is sponsoring a photo contest for the cover of Gifts Volume II. Deadline to submit photos is Oct 15, 2008. I'm trying to decide which photo, out of the hundreds I have of Kayla, to submit!

Speaking of photo contests...every year the National Down Syndrome Society holds a photo contest for the NYC Buddy Walk. Chosen photos are made into a video slide show which is shown on the big screen in Times Square. Deadline to submit photos is July 18. Again - I'm trying to narrow my choices down to submit an entry for this too; at least we can send 3 photos in!

Do you think that the buddy walk will need volunteers? I'd love to help out!

I think any picture of Kayla and Lucas will be a winner! They are both cutie pies!

I can't imagine Kayla taking a "bad" picture. Good luck.

Congrats on the book award. What a wonderful thing to be part of. That is awesome. You do take wonderful pictures. I bet you have a great shot at winning--for the cover and to be in the slide show.

I love all the photos of Kayla, but the one that makes my heart sing is the one of her running away from the camera, in a red and white dress, I think, maybe towards her Daddy? I LOVE that shot...it speaks to me of freedom and love and ability and confidence.

A.'s teacher sent in a story to Gifts for her, so sweet.

Do you go to NYC for the slide show? We've been twice and its big fun. Maybe we'll see you there? I have to start narrowing down my picture choices, always a challenge...

Michelle,

With the kids out for the Summer, it seems like I keep telling them to settle down, or to keep the noise level down all day long....

What a sweet BIG sister Kayla is to Lucas!! I enjoyed the video of the two of them....I can't believe Kayla thinks it's hilarious to have her hair pulled. She is a silly goose....They are both joys to the heart!! Thanks for sharing the video. It is very special.

I had a perfect one last year to send in and I didn't. Maybe I should send it this year. Of course I need to ask Vicki (Aaron's mom) It's a picture of Gabi and Aaron hugging.
