Sea World Pictures

Ok here are the last of the vacation photos. After walking around for a bit, eating lunch, seeing the dolphin show, we finally let Kayla have some real fun in the Water Works area:

A PT goal! ~ balancing on one foot, and I was too busy taking pictures to count how many seconds she had her leg up LOL

She is her daddy's daughter! Her first roller coaster ride and she loved it! (if you click to enlarge it you can see her facial expression better). I know Joe is looking forward to when she's tall enough to ride the adult coasters because I sure don't ride them!

I couldn't ride this one with her either. When I was kid I loved the tea cup ride, but the spinning makes me sick now.

The little girl sitting right behind Kayla also has Down syndrome. I thought it was neat that out of all the people at the park that day they ended up next to each other on the same ride.

Eh, I'm bored. It's no fun when you can't ride any rides.

I love his big open mouth smiles. It's like he's laughing with no sound.

So excited to see Shamu.

You know how I mentioned I don't like roller coasters? Yeah, I got on this log ride with Kayla. It doesn't go anywhere near as fast as coasters and it is a water ride, water rides are fun!

I don't think Kayla quite knew what to think. I had a grip across her chest and I could feel her heart beating fast, but she wanted to go again, so we did!

When Joe and Kayla were getting on the Shamu Express coaster the lady let him know that we could go to guest services and get a "special needs pass." I heard they have these passes at Disney, but the only thing I knew about them was don't have to wait in line at the rides. I didn't know they had this at Sea World. It didn't even cross my mind to ask about it, so when she mentioned it we decided to go find out some more info.

Basically what you get is a specified time for each ride you're planning on riding on. You show up at said time at said ride and they let you right on. We used this on the log ride where there was a 30 min wait, so it was really nice. Once we got seated the guy even asked if we wanted to go twice. I think it's nice they have this although I have mixed feelings about using it. But I guess if amusement parks are going to offer something like that we might as well use it!

It looks like you had a fabulous time. I'm so glad. The pictures are great. Kayla looks like she had a ball. I would not feel funny at all about using the special passes. You're right they're there, use them! I say anyting that can make life easier--go for it! Have a great day.

These are awesome pictures! No wonder you stayed at Sea World for so long; look at all the happy expressions on Kayla's face!! I haven't been to Sea World in Years. Maybe I'll get a season pass next year. I love the pic of Lucas looking bored too... Soo cute!!

I haven't been to Sea World since I was a kid and now I wanna go! Those are such great pictures.

I know what you mean about the special needs passes. But they're there, so yeah, use 'em. Even just as a way to thank them for having the program -- I'm sure they keep statistics on how much they get used.

I am not a roller coaster person either. At all.

I'm the same way...no way to roller coasters, yes please to water rides! :)

What a fun time. And I say...use the passes...our kids get the blunt end of the stick so many other times, let them have a little special pass! :)

Kayla's excitement over seeing Shamu made me smile too. Thanks for sharing the pix!

The look on Kayla's face on the Shamu roller coaster is priceless. Sheer joy!

I don't do the rides much anymore either. I'm convinced that the older you get, the more likely you are to receive real bodily harm on those things. Or maybe I've just gotten wiser and know better than to let my body be thrown around like a pinball. lol That stupid pirate ship ride at Six Flags almost killed me one year...what the heck was I thinking getting on that thing??? My stomach hated me the rest of the day. The very long, very hot, day.

I'm so glad they have the special needs passes at these parks! It's a great idea and you would be crazy NOT to use them. It's certainly not putting any hardship on the rest of the park visitors to have a few people go ahead of them. And anybody that would gripe about it is a total moron anyway. lol

Great pictures, glad the vacation was so much fun.

Kari

P.S. Lucas is getting cuter and cuter every single day. I fear he'll be "off the market" long before my Kara gets around to meeting him. lol

Oh, I like the picture of Kayla and Joe on the roller coaster the best! I'm so glad you all had such a great time!

As for the passes, you absolutely were right to use them!

I know exactly what you mean about feeling funny about things like passes- we get funding and it makes me feel that way. Someone (without a special needs kid, if there is such a thing!) once told me that it is alot harder (even tho I don't really feel it) to raise 'special needs' kids and these kinds of things ameliorate that. I wasn't sure how I felt about that either. I guess when our children are old enough to make those decisions themselves they will figure out what works for them. In my case I end up with the old 'don't look a gift horse in the mouth' attitude and use them! I love the pix, thanks so much for sharing!

You guys had a great time, didn't you!! I love the excited to see "Shamu" face!!

I just looked up the travel time for us to go to San Antonio... 8 hours. It's definitely doable, especially if there are bases to stop at along the way.
We're thinking of doing White Sands in June - the base Commander is giving us a 4 day weekend to explore New Mexico. We'll see...

Roller coasters and I aren't friends. Period.

Oh what a blast! I love her expression on the roller coaster. We're the opposite - I love them and J hates them. Kayla did not know what to think of her first, but she's younger than Kayla.

He's getting so big - where does the time go???

Oh how I've enjoyed all those pictures...Kayla looks so happy in all of them, you can tell she was having a great time!! Love how she's not scared of the rides...I won't go on a roller coaster or spinning rides either! lol Lucas is getting so big and like you, love that open mouthed smile:-) xoxo

I think that pass is a great idea, in that it can provide for a bit more structure. Parks like that are stressful for everyone, so why make it more stressful for someone who maybe is already on sensory overload! Don't feel bad about using it, I certainly wouldn't.

Did you email the one foot picture to her pt yet? :0) I thought it was cute that you thought of that. Your baby girl is growing by leaps and bounds!

It looks like Kayla enjoyed the trip, as did mom and dad.Looks like Lucas got to enjoy the stroller:) We have been to Disney and Sea World and never knew about the pass. I think it's a great idea, but I'm like you it would be hard to use. We go to Disney in November I may have to look into it this time.

Great pictures! Looks live Kayla had a wonderful time. I can totally relate with the not wanting to ride rides going around in circles. I suffer from nasty motion sickness when that happens.

But the log ride looked great. That's right up my alley too. :)

Your kids are SO beautiful! And what a fun day! You guys have the best family life!

I LOVE the photo of Joe and Kayla on that "roller coaster." Her expression is priceless. My word, these are just some great photos.

And guess what? That water ride you went on with her looks way too fast for me.

The baby is adorable - love his big smile. I really should try to get some smiley photos of Avery. And she's becoming so vocal! She squeals so loud, I think she startles herself. LOL

So much fun! I am jealous! And Kayla looks gorgeous - as always!

I understand your mixed feelings yet it is so nice to see people of all types, shapes and sizes out enjoying all that the world has to offer. It was not too long ago that people that were considered different were not allowed to be part of society and were locked away.

Great pictures! Looks like a fantastic time.
