My Big Girl

A few people have commented that Kayla seems older now that Lucas is here; that having a newborn in the house will do that. I've noticed it too. The first time I picked Kayla up after Lucas was born I couldn't believe how heavy she felt to me. Within a few short days my arms had become used to holding this little 7 lb infant so when I picked up my 34 lb almost 5-yr old (yes she only weighs 34 lbs - I think Lucas will pass her by before too long!) it felt like she was about 50 lbs. I'm not used to Kayla feeling so heavy in my arms! She's always been this little thing, didn't gain weight very fast, and now all of a sudden she feels solid in my arms. When I hold her in my lap she's all arms and legs, too big all of a sudden to fit in arms and lap for a cuddle. She grew up when I wasn't looking; that shouldn't be allowed to happen!

We managed to make it out of the house today and go to storytime at the library. My first venture out with the 2 kids by myself and I think we did ok! The dishes weren't done before we left (I'm anal about washing the dishes before I leave, I don't like to come back home to dirty dishes!) but oh well, I had to let that slide. I needed a practice run of getting out of the house since we'll be going back to MOPS on Tuesday! :)

My big girl was excited to take Lucas to the library and thankfully she was well behaved. A toddler girl came over to his carseat and started rocking it, Kayla jumped up, put her hand on the handle and said "no, sleeping" - aaawww the first sign of possessiveness!

Kayla was holding Lucas this afternoon when he started making little noises. She put her hand on his cheek saying, "don't cry Lucas, don't cry. Ok? Alright?" She was being so sweet and gentle. I finally remembered to pull out the video camera to get a quick clip of them together. Her facial expression in the 2nd half of this video cracks me up! Guess she didn't want anything to do with him once he started making fussing noises!

I have felt the same way - Judah felt INCREDIBLY heavy to me after I had Eliza It was shocking, really.

Loved how Kayla was outta there when Lucas started fussing. Totally cracked me up!

Love those sweet newborn sounds. Such a handsome boy!

I remember when I brought Ella home, same thing, Hunter was huge. It seemed obscene to change his diaper, he was barely 2 but all of a sudden he seemed completly grown! The video is so cute, I love how when Lucas starts to cry Kayla bails : ) Smart girl!!

Oooohhh!!!! They're so sweet!!!

They do grow up overnight when a new baby comes home, don't they?

You're so right, Michelle. Cameron seemed so small to me before Avery was born and now he's suddenly so big.

The video cracks me up. I laughed out loud at how fast she got off the couch when he started fussing.

Well, obviously the video is adorable. I'm glad she's adjusting so well. I completely agree with you about how it seems they grow up overnight...it made me kind of sad!

But--out of the house and to storytime already. Wow! Kuddos to you. That's impressive. Congrats too for having your priorities straight--that was much more important than the dishes, and if you let yourself be sidetracked by the things like the dishes, you never get out of the house.

you know I get the opposite reaction with the other little people in my life. they come for visits and i give themhugs and lift them and they feel like feathers compared to Aaron.
Kayla's reaction made me giggle. Sweet video. She has a nice haircut!!

Nate and I enjoyed that very much. She sure did leave in a hurry when he started crying! When did Kayla get a hair cut? I musta missed that! She looks cute! I love that she was possessive of Lucas at the library. That's adorable.
love you!

Oh my gosh - that is too funny. Her eyes got wide and she just wanted to take off once he started fussing. Too cute :)

That was very sweet. Kayla is a little like me, they start crying, they go back to mom! Abi watched with me and she said " he's the cutest baby ever! I can hold him?"

I am glad you are jumping in and getting out there with two kids. It is a huge change when you add another. It really does seem that you finally notice how big the oldest one got while you were thinking they were so small .

awww too cute!
I had the same experience when Ethan arrived, Becca was huge and so grown up! Now they are growing so fast.

Dishes ... I try to get to them and everything before leaving but really some days you have to let it go :)

Yay, a video!! Thank you, Michelle! Oh that made me laugh this morning. She was like - okay, I am so done with you now...goodbye!

And the dishes...well now that you have two kids sometimes they are just going to have to wait! Dishes will always be there, but time with your babies is far too precious!

They are both adorable!! I remember how big Bella, my 15th month old, seemed when we had Brooklyn was born (and Bella only weighed about 16 lbs at that time). There should be a rule against them growing up when we blink - it doesn't seem fair, does it!

Kayla sounds like she is doing a GREAT job at being a big sister!! And you'll get the hang of taking two kids out by yourself!!!

Yep...she's done. See, Kayla's a smart little cookie. She knows that crying babies belong with their mama. (That's my grandmotherly attitude, too. Babies are a blast...until they start that fussing and then it's back to Mom. LOL).

Kayla and Lucas are adorable - I loved seeing them together.

I remember that same thing after Abe was born. Abriella was so big to me and it was weird to change her diaper after changing a newborns :)

They are just too cute. Did Kayla get a hair cut, I love it on her. And Lucus seems to look a lot like your husband.

The video was very cute and I'm glad your getting out with your two bundles :)

Oh what a cute video. Snuggle Bug is like that with Baby Bug. He loves holding her but once she starts fussing he's "all done" with that!

And yes, we're experiencing the same thing...Snuggle Bug seems HUGE now that we have an itty bitty in our home. He only weighs 29 lbs. but it feels like he weighs 50+ lbs! :)

Thanks for posting! I've been wondering how things are going on your end.

That video is so precious. Kayla is a great big sister.

So sweet - I think Lucas will pass her soon! Annie is four and only weighs 30 pounds - good to know she's not tooo tiny! I just knew she was going to make the bestest big sis!

Shannon @ Gabi's World said...

She is really doing great with him. Loved the video. Gabi watched it with me and said "Awwww baby!"

Oh, I laughed so hard when Kayla scooted away when he started fussing! Ha!
I've noticed that too, that my OLD baby at home suddenly seems grown-up overnight when a new baby arrives!

Did Kayla get her haircut shorter? It looks real cute. She is so sweet with Lucas. I don't blame her about not wanting to deal with a fussy baby. Lucas is so adorable with his cooing. I'm glad you had fun outside the house. Thankss for sharing the cute video. Have a nice holiday.

Your children are beautiful! I miss the days of having a itty bitty! We can barely make it out of the house with my three older girls, I can't imagine with a newbie! God Bless you!

Yes, it sure seems like our "little" Kayla is well on the way of being a "big" girl now :-) Time flies and they grow so fast :-(

You got her hair cut!! I bet it's much easier to take care of.

I took Joey and Leah to the doc the other day. He weighs 22 lbs and she weighs 14.5. She's going to pass him up before I know it too!!

She's so cute with him. She'll learn to deal with the fusses and when he gets big enough to learn to bug her.
