Grains of Gratitude

Time to take a moment and reflect back on this past week to find the things I'm grateful for!

1. Our MOPS year is getting underway; we had our second meeting on Tues. I was a little hesitant about how Kayla would do going to the MOPPETS room; she hasn't gone to MOPS with me in 2 years, but since she's in afternoon preschool this year she has no choice but to go with me LOL When she went a couple years ago she didn't seem to care for it too much and would cry when dropped off, she would even try to not walk down that hallway. I'm grateful to say she has done wonderfully, of course she is older now and in the 4-yr old room, but she has had no qualms about going right in the room and waving me away! This is such a relief!

2. I had an OB appt with the perinatologist for an u/s and I'm grateful it went well and everything looks good w/baby. (I'm also grateful I was able to find a babysitter at the last minute! I do have some u/s pictures to share next week, just haven't had a chance to post them.

3. I'm grateful for things to do! Yesterday morning I took Kayla in town to a kids' craft event - making paper plate masks, bats, ghosts, Christmas ornaments, bracelets, turkeys etc. She had a good time going from table to table and making the different things available. On the way out they gave us a bag of popcorn and some cookies.

4. I'm grateful for the Military Child Education Coalition - what a mouthful huh? Of course the military uses the acronym MCEC, or just say "M-SEC". One of their initiatives is Tell Me A Story. Our base has one of these events a few times a year, I finally was able to sign Kayla up for the one they had last night. This was the story that was read: How To Bake An American Pie. Usually the kids in attendance get to take home their own copy of the book, but they had some trouble getting this for last night's event. All the kids did get their own copy of
Our 50 States: A Family Adventure Across America. I'm grateful Kayla is doing so much better with sit-down events like this and story time at the library. She used to constantly get up and down, now she sits pretty well in her spot and pays attention better!

5. I'm grateful the Red Sox won their division and have home-field for the playoffs :) Yes I know that's silly, but it has been 12 yrs since they won the division so this is nice! LOL

Next week is finally a slower week for me - don't have any appts, MOPS, hardly anything planned, which I'm looking forward to. I feel like my house is such a mess and unorganized! A pile of catalogs and magazines on the counter I need to go through, piles of "stuff" for MOPS, our Antiquities fundraiser, and Buddy Walk that I just need to find some time to go through, it is driving me crazy! :)

Kayla and I leave Friday for Roswell to go to the Buddy Walk. We're leaving a day early and spending the night (they are having a dinner for the families the night before), so I'm looking forward to that.

Have a great week!

The Buddy Walk sounds fun. We've never gone to one yet but it's on our must-do calendar. Have a good time!

Your time has been so full. You savour every moment. Glad that Kayla was happy at the MOPS group. Is Karen (Surviving Motherhood) planned to speak at your group in the future? That would be sooo cool wouldn't it?

Is Roswell a long drive away for you? It sounds fabulous.

Your little daughter is beautiful. I'm glad to have found your blog and to see you write so courageously about having a Down Syndrome child. I plan to link to your blog on my own blog.
When I was a LaLeche leader years ago, a woman who had been expecting at the previous month's meeting showed up with her newborn baby. I was holding the baby and commenting on how beautiful she was when the mom mentioned sadly that the baby had Down Syndrome. She was obviously grieving for the perfect baby she did not have. I tried to encourage her - sadly, she never came back to another meeting. Funny thing was that if she hadn't told me, I wouldn't have noticed that the child had DS. That was about 13 years ago. I often think of this woman. I hope things have gone well for her.
God bless you. Patricia

WOW sounds like a very busy week! How is Kayla handling daddy still being gone? How much longer do you have until he comes home again? I use to do MOPS and loved it. I now have all my kiddos in school. :) Heck I even went and got a job at my kids school just to be near them there. Hope this new week bring tons of wonderful things! Congrats on a great U/S too!!

There's a lot of happy Red Sox fans up here as well!

Glad you had a good week - sounds like this next week will be relaxing for you. We all need those slower weeks to recuperate! This week is slower for me too, and I plan on enjoying it!

Looking forward to the pictures!

I am so glad that everything went so well at the doctor's. You have been so busy but I know you enjoy everything you are involved with.
I bet you ARE happy about your Sox!
: )
Stay well, get some rest and enjoy that less hectic week. Those are always sweet. You and Kayla can enjoy some quiet, fun time. Just the two girls!

Hugs,
Sue
