Grains of Gratitude

I wasn't sure if I would be doing a Grains of Gratitude post today. Not much happened this week, nothing eventful, and Kayla's been sick. It's been a trying last few days. I had to dig deep on finding some things to be grateful for, but here they are:

1. Kayla had her 4-yr well-child check up on Wed. We recently changed providers, so it was our first time seeing this new Dr. Joe was able to take off work and go to the appt. (That was more so he could be with us when she had to get her 4 shots! -which didn't happen, after the appt we went to Immunizations and they were gone for lunch.) I'm grateful the appt went well and he seems to be a decent doctor!

2. As I've mentioned previously, Joe will be deploying soon. He reminded me that he was going to get the smallpox vaccine. I found this information and to say I was a little concerned is an understatement. Joe called Immunizations and they told him he would probably be deferred because I'm pregnant. For that I'm grateful. He won't know for sure until his appt with Public Health, but I hope that's the outcome!

3. So Kayla's been sick. Of course she was fine at her appt on Wed and woke up Thur not feeling well. She hardly had anything to eat or drink all that day. She seemed to have a sore throat as anytime she attempted to take a drink she would wince and bring her hand up to her mouth. On Fri morning it started out the same way so I called the clinic. Of course by 7:50 am all the appts were already booked! Her provider did call me back for a telephone consult. Just based on what I told him (it seemed she was hurting to eat or drink) he said it might be Coxsackie Virus. I don't think that's it as she has no rash on her hands, feet, or inside her mouth (from what I can see). If it was that there is no treatment anyway, just Motrin for the pain. So I went to the clinic and picked up the Ibuprofen. He did give us a referral to go to an urgent care place in town if we needed to on Sat. On Sat she started out a little better by at least eating some cereal for breakfast and drinking her milk. After that she again refused anything to eat or drink. So we decided after her nap to bring her in because maybe it's strep? So we were getting ready to go at 3:30 when I found out the urgent care hours are 10-3 on Sat. She only seems to be doing a little better once the Ibuprofen kicks in and will eat a little bit. What am I grateful for? That she is at least going to the bathroom a couple times a day so I know she's not dehydrated!

4. I won the book in Karen't contest. What's so neat about that is she won a book in one of my book contests! Thanks Karen!

So we're still trying to decide whether to take Kayla in today (at least I know ahead of time the hours for today are 12-5!) She woke up still not feeling well as she was a little fussy, and I could see it hurt her to swallow. After the medicine kicked in she did eat some pancakes and drank some juice. But it seems just as soon as we think we're in the all clear she'll probably go back to refusing anything to eat/drink. We'll probably take her in just to see if they can see anything in her throat. Praying that she is on the way to being better since this is day 4...I don't want to have to keep giving her medicine just to get her feeling well enough to eat or drink.

Get well soon Kayla! Hope that you aren't too tired Michelle in these early weeks. I remember how tired I was a few weeks ago (not pregnant of course), but having a sick son, followed by a sick me and then a sick daughter. It's very exhausting. May God fill your heart with overcoming joy and wonderful news to share! Huggles.

Thanks for joining in Michelle - I'm sorry your week isn't going so well. Praying that Kayla is feeling better soon - it's not fun to have sick kids.

I had the smallpox vaccine when I was a kid (have the lovely scar to prove it ;) but I don't know anything about it - sorry to hear that Joe will be deploying soon :(

Sending big hugs to you, and hoping that you get some answers for Kayla and that this week is a better one!

Hugs!

Oh, I'm so sorry that Kayla's not feeling well. I hope she gets feeling better soon, and that you might get some answers as to why she's not feeling better. I know I always dislike not knowing what's wrong with my little ones!

It's so sweet that in the midst of a not very good week you still found things to be grateful for.
I somehow didn't know Joe was deploying. I'll be praying for all of you.
I think I'd go ahead and take her in - just for peace of mind. I always feel better if the doctor says it's not anything to worry about.

I am praying that by now Kayla is feeling much better and that the clinic was able to spot what the problem is and get started fixing it. Please let us know when Joe finds out about his deployment.

Love to you all.

Bless her little heart. I hope she feels better soon!

That smallpox vaccine is scary. My youngest is immuno compromised and when her Dad was headed to go *play in the sandbox* , they had to give it to him as he boarded the plane.

We ran into some difficulties with the small pox shot before Daniel deployed. Judah was 4 months old and I did not want to take any chances, Daniel actually was able to get his while he was over "there". Hopefully Joe can postpone his as well. They should allow him to.

I hope Kayla feels better soon. It's awful when your little one is sick, but you don't know what it is. I miss the smiles and giggles so much when my kids are under the weather. Glad she is able to stay hydrated.

Next week will have brighter days, I hope. (I'll cross my fingers for you ;)

Sorry to hear you haven't had a great week. I hope Kayla is starting to feel better - it is horrible seeing them sick. I loved the birthday photoes too by the way - Cinderella's outfit was rather more glam than I expected - the ball gown I presume? Hope your week is improving!

PS Thanks for the article you linked - I couldn't get it to work - is there a heading or somthing that I could googel and try to read it that way?

Poor thing. I hope she's on the mend. I'm having a sore throat the past couple days, so I'm sure they'll get my budding cold. I never like when they're sick. Glad you like her new doctor!

Oops. Messed up the last comment. Sweet Kayla! I am so sorry to hear she is feeling so yucky! We will return the prayers right back to you for her to feel better soon. Dalton is doing so much better and I hope Kayla is soon on the mend as well. I don't know how I missed your announcement about Joes's deployment! Dalton's Sunday School teacher just got called up Saturday for his second deployment. Every time we pray for him, we will be praying for Joe as well. And for you and Kayla and the baby, of course. :)
