Birthday Party

A couple people asked about details for the birthday party I'm planning for Kayla. I'll talk about that, but I won't talk about her turning FOUR on July 15th. Nope. Won't do it. Because it's just not true! And if someone tells you otherwise, well then, they must be lying. My baby can't possibly be turning FOUR can she?

I've yet to do a "theme" party for Kayla. Until she tells me, "I want a fill-in-the-blank party" we're not doing one; I just find it easier not to worry about a "theme."

I saw this Beautiful Butterfly Cake and thought it looked like a cute cake to make. With some changes. We'll replace the Oreos with mini-cupcakes. We'll probably use some sprinkles instead of Fruity Pebbles, because I don't think Fruity Pebbles sound good on a cake! We won't be using any suggested hard candy rings, because this is a joint birthday party for 4 and 2 year olds. But this is the gist of it.

Then I went to Oriental Trading and found these cute little 4-piece bucket sets that would be perfect for a summer-time birthday "goodie bag" for the kids to take home.

We're getting these small, blow-up beach balls to put inside:

and this "treasure chest" full of trinkets. There are enough pieces in here to throw about 10 items in each bucket so we're good to go!

Jennifer also bought some capri suns and little snack items to send home with the kids as well.

I would like to have a nice outdoor party, but it's too hot here for that. (104 here today) I tried that 2 yrs ago, and started the party at 10, but when it was time to eat lunch we were bombarded with flies. And there just isn't enough room in the house for kids and their parents. So we're having the party at the Kid Zone on base. It's not in this room anymore, they've moved it to a smaller room (yes, smaller) but you get the idea. I thought about doing some "games" this year, but since there will also be 2 year olds there I think we'll skip it. They're still too young for "organized" games. They'll be happy enough to just play in this room!

So there you have it!

You ROCK and I have a surprise for you on my latest post. As I wrote about you, I felt that God was saying that you are a beautiful aroma, a wonderful fragrance and that people you come into contact with and pass by, are blessed by what they 'smell' and it lingers in their hearts.

Looks like so much fun! We are doing a Thomas the Tank Engine party because that's what he asked for. I was thinking of doing buckets and shovels too instead of the "treat bag". Great minds think a like. Jasons party is on the 8th (acutual birthday July 9th) and I can't believe he's turning 3.
I still don't have the food figured out and making the gluten free, egg free, milk free cake is a crap shoot. I'm starting to get nervous....

That looks like a WONDERFUL party!
We actually MADE that butterfly cake for The Girl's second birthday, but sadly that was before we had a digital camera and so I can't send you a picture - but it was VERY cute.

4! Big girl, hon. Some birthdays hit you harder than others.

What about gummy Lifesavers, instead of hard candy?

Have fun!

What a fun party! I love the butterfly cake! I am getting ready to plan Amanda's 17th birthday party! You think it's hard to believe your baby is four, try 17... I am still young, it just cannot be possible.
The movie hairspray comes out on her birthday so she wants a "hairspray" party, and plans to drive all her friends to see the movie afterwards (in my suburban)... and then have a late swim after. Should be interesting. I like your party plans much better. Izzy turns 5 two days before Amanda's birthday. I may make the butterfly for her!

Hey, have I been in that room on base? It looks familiar! :)

Your party plans sound great thus far.

Oh, one last thing. Do you still sell Discovery Toys? I might be interested in getting Snuggle Bug their MARBLEWORKS® Deluxe Set (Item #8221) and if I do I want to order it through you. Can you email me about that?

Thanks!

Ok, so you are so ther best birthdaypartying mom! The party will be a hit for sure! Have fun, and 4 is a lot. I am sure you miscalculated a lot, cause that would actually make my Vince 14 months... I came about your blog abouta year ago, and then he was so little - yet Kayla so big, and now they are both BIG???? What happened?

Ooooh I wish I could go to Kayla's party, sounds like it will be sooo much fun:-) That butterfly cake is just gorgeous and as you say, you can substitute whatever you want on it. No doubt the kids will love their goodie bags also! You DO have a theme for this party...a Summer Beach Party theme! lol xoxo

I love the butterfly cake. Rhiannon says maybe she wants me to try to make this for her birthday. (shudder!) I can't believe my baby is gonna hit double digits this year! Shannon and I are both staring at her all the time now and thinking OMG!!! 10!!! Anyway, I think Pea is right- you do have a theme- summer beach theme. That sounds awesome. Wish I could be there. What size clothing is Kayla wearing now? Rhi and Nate love going shopping for her.

Hi! I have just stumbled on to your blog and it is lovely! Your daughter is beautiful and I love your writing. I will look forward to getting to "know" you both more in the future. I have a brother-in-law with the extra chromosone. I blogged about him not long ago - we took him on vacation with us to Florida and had a great time. You can find my post about Craig here: http://robin-robinznest.blogspot.com/2007/06/craig.html

The girls are almost a year apart exactly. Kylie's is the 12th and she will be three. This year we are having a theme -- momma picked it for the Asian baby -- Hello Kitty. I got all kinds of things that I brought with us.

The cake looks great.

That cake is just precious!

I love having places like that for birthday parties. That is what we did last year for Grace. The year earlier, we had a beach themed party HERE and oye. The work and the clean up and the confusion!

And isn't Oriental Trading wonderful?? I love them! Great for teachers and pre school teachers and parties...

I just know Kayla will have a wonderful time!

Hugs,
Sue

It is hard to believe it each year they get older! I remember older ladies telling me to savor every moment with my kids and back then I was thinking, blah, blah, blah. But now I find myself telling all the young parents the exact same thing! Time really does fly by and before you know it they are 20, 19 and 16!

Sounds like such a fun party. I wish I could come too! And I agree to stay away from themes. Makes it that much harder sometimes. Just get what you like and enjoy the day!

How fun!! You're a good mommy. We always do theme parties, it seems. Until the oldest started just doing sleepovers. But I sure never made a butterfly cake that cute! What on earth are they thinking with fruity pebbles?! Nasty.
Wish I knew you in real life so I could watch that cutie blow out her candles! I want to know you both!!
