Time Travel Tuesday

Annie from My Life As Annie has started "Time Travel Tuesday" and this week we're "traveling" back to when we were 18.

I turned 18 in 1991...what was going on in 1991? Well in Jan the Gulf War started, hmmm...look where we are now 16 years later...sigh...
Best Picture: Dances With Wolves. Record of the Year: Another Day in Paradise. Album of the Year: Back on the Block. Song of the Year: From A Distance.

Ok, technically in these pictures I was 17, but I turned 18 in Aug, 1.5 months after I graduated so this should count! Yes we still had the big bangs in the early 90s! Don't believe me? Just check out the pictures in my yearbook - I promise I'm not the only one with this hairstyle! It would have been nice if someone would have told me that I had about 4 inches of dead-end hair that I needed to cut off!

With my mom before going to the school for graduation. That's my little sister with my mom - she is graduating this year! Wow!

Not much happened when I was 18...I was working on base at the dining hall, making decent enough money. Several months after graduating I moved to MD to live with my mom. I finally got my driver's license (up until that point I just didn't take the test!) I bought my first car (with money I saved from working at the dining hall) a black, 2-door, 1988 Ford Escort, no power steering, no A/C...but hey! I had wheels and I paid for them myself!

My friend Michelle (whom I graduated with) then moved in with us and we both started working at the Child Development Center on base. I can't tell you how many times we were asked if we were sisters because we had the same name! Huh?

Ok if you want to play along and blog about what you were doing when you were 18 go visit Annie!

Today this sweet, precious boy is having his 2nd open heart surgery. I'm sure his momma would appreciate it if you could keep him, his family, the surgeons, in your prayers - if you have a moment go on over and leave a comment on his blog. I lift Gabe up in prayer and ask God to protect him as he goes through OHS. Amen.

We have matching bangs!
It was fun to read about your 18th year. It is amazing to see how much time has gone by, like your sister being so small and now graduating. Can we really be that old??? No way.
Thanks for playing.

I love the photo and the big bangs. And when I see that photo of that sweet baby, I realize how fortunate we are to only be dealing with juvenile diabetes.

How pretty you are! I remember a lot of those things, but once again, from an older age.

I will pray for little Gabe.

You gotta love big hair - that is a lovely photo. Big hair lives on too you know - at least it does in my poodle who got clipped yesterday. Lives on in me too but that is more because I haven't got my act together to get to the hairdresser!

PS Thanks for trying to help me with linking - am a tech nincompoop but I will try and experiment with it. Couldn't work out how to email you!

oh my gosh that was like looking in a time-travel mirror, if only for the hair! :) I too turned 18 in August of 91 so I was 17 in my senior picture. Practically the same hairdo! Cracking up over here!!...on a more serious note, I too said a prayer for little Gabe. What a sweet face. I wish him well.

That was a great post Michelle. The pictures are great. Isn't it funny that when things are in style they look just great, but looking back we have to wonder what we were thinking!! I was looking at some old pictures my Mom has of me the other day - just hysterical.
I sure will pray for that sweet little guy. Oh - there is just so much really difficult "stuff" going on lately.

Great post Michelle.
No worries I believe your being truthful your not the only one I have a few photos kicking around with the same hair style. LOL

Isn't it funny how we don't see those dead ends in our own hair until we look back at pictures years later?

Robin Green said...

Yep, love that 80's hairdo! You are a couple of years younger than I am, but I remember 1988 well. I got engaged that year. Thanks so much for sharing.

Had to have the bangs.

Oh this one should be fun for me since it was only 2.5 years ago. Thanks for participating, it was nice to read you info.

I had the big hair also and I think I beat you.I'm sure you have those pics. Your godchild looked through my yearbook and asked why does everyone have crazy hair? Why didn't anyone tell us?
I can't believe you said not much happen to you when you were 18.There was a lot. I think you just didn't want to write it out it would take too long.
I remember the sister thing. We would tell everyone yes when they asked. Then they would ask how?Funny.

Thanks for passing that on about Gabe! I will definitely be thinking about them! I also think it was extremely brave of you to post pictures from "back in the day"! I would NEVER EVER do that! I think I've discarded any evidence from age 15-19!!!!! Not the prettiest of times!!! Of course I thought I was very cool! Thank goodness your friends love you for you, right, or I would have been very lonely!? :)

I missed the era of the big bangs and permed hair - thankfully. But, I have my own fashion woes to cringe at when I look back at pictures. Thanks for sharing! It was fun to read and to see your pictures! Big hair or not you looked beautiful!
