Grains of Gratitude

On Friday most of base housing had a scheduled power outage from 1230pm-830pm. Yes, for 8 hrs we were without power. I did find some things to be grateful for despite this power outage:

1. That the weather was overcast and not sunny and in the 90s like it was the week before. Our house didn't get unbearably hot which was nice.

2. We spent part of the time at Kayla's IEP meeting so at least that kept us busy and gave us something to do! When we came back it was almost time for Kayla's nap so she slept most of the afternoon.

3. Because I couldn't get on the computer and blog I was able to catch up on reading some of my magazines; and then I took a short nap myself!

4. I'm grateful this happened at this time of the year and not during the winter so it was lighter out later in the evening.

5. The community center wasn't affected so Joe was able to take Kayla to Oasis Pizza for dinner and then go to the Kid Zone so she could play for awhile.

6. "New" housing on base wasn't affected so we were able to move Bunco to someones house over there and still play on Friday night (which was nice because we already had to postpone it earlier for the exercise.)

As for the rest of the week:

7. I'm grateful Joe had a nice birthday on Wednesday! He was able to get a new bike seat he's been wanting. I made him a nice breakfast of scrambled eggs with ham and cheese and hasbrowns. Kayla doesn't have school on Wednesdays so we surprised him at work with a balloon bouquet and took him out to lunch.

8. Grateful that Kayla's IEP went so well and she has a great team of teachers and therapists working with her. They really tune in to her strengths and weaknesses and they all seem to just adore her.

9. On Saturday the spouse's group had a fundraiser both in town at Saturday in the Park. I'm glad it wasn't too hot for the 4.5 hrs I was there and also grateful we were able to raise some funds.

Hope everyone had a nice weekend!

We have our IEP meeting coming up in the next few weeks here. I am a little nervous as it is our first one. The school district so far, seems like they will be easy to work with.

Glad yours went well!

Being thankful without electricity isn't easy, but you did a great job Michelle. Actually, after reading your list I thought I could probably benefit from a power failure. I might get more done!!
So glad Kayla is doing well and in such good hands.
Have a blessed day!

IEP's can be hard I've heard... I, like you, have a great team who love Izzy so they are painless.
sounds like a great week!

I'm so glad it wasn't a hot day on Friday! I can only imagine how miserable y'all would have been. We don't live in military housing now but back in the day we did ... I remember those scheduled outages. No fun!! Hope y'all had a nice weekend and that this week is a good one!

I loved all your grains, and am impressed that you made it for 8 hours without power :)

I hope Kayla's IEP was wonderful :)

That's such a wonderful list!! And how great that you got to catch up with your mags and a nap! :)

Doesn't it feel good to find those grains, when it would be so much easier to grumble! And a nap...there is nothing better.

Of course Kayla's teachers love her - she's an absolute doll and has great (and sane) parents!

Great list, Michelle!

Our weekend was nice. We went to an outdoor concert last night and had a WONDERFUL time! I love those concerts and so does Snuggle Bug!

What a terrible time to "schedule" an outage. I'm glad you got through it fairly easily but it seems like maybe they could have done this during the night. What a pain. I'm totally lost around here without electricity. Everything seems eerie and weird.

But leave it to you to come up with a long list of things to be thankful for! Joe's birthday sounds like it was really nice.

Glad the IEP meeting went well! It's so wonderful that everyone who works with Kayla has her best interest at heart.
Sorry about the power outage. We get that here a lot and it really bugs me.
Have a wonderful week ahead :)
