When your child is too quite

You know they are never up to any good! Yesterday it was a case of pulling every last tissue out of the box!

So what are some memorable moments/messes you've found your child into when your house took on that "it's-too-quite-and-not-in-a-good-way" sound?

Desitin smeared all over our hotel room; a dresser emptied of little boy's cloths that had been stratigically strewn on the ceiling fan blades; hiding in the pantry eating potato chips. Cute post

Ha! Do I have a nightmare story for you. This was my 3 year old daughter who is now 26 and my 4 year old niece, now the mother of three angels.

They were in my daughters bedroom and somehow got into the freezer and had a bag of cranberries and as they thawed they popped them - because it was so fun - on the wood floor. I had a small carpet in there as well and I was renting at the time.

Then the two elfs they decided to clean up the mess with flour and honey!

They were covered from head to toe and I tell you I didn't think I would EVER get that mess cleaned up. It was horrible!

What a memory!

That too quiet sound can be a bad thing. My little D smeared lotion all over his hair, body, clothes, our bed, bedside table and mirror. He did it so quick too!

The toilet was clogged up bad...Hubby and FIL had to take the toilet out...they discovered a full bar of Dial soap stuck in it...my then 3 year old son had tossed and flushed...
:-D

Oh Lord. Evan was about 2 or 3, playing quietly in the family room (or so I thought) while I happily drank coffee and typed on the computer (d@mn internet!).

After a bit too much solitude, I checked on him, only to find poop smeared all on the kitchen floor, up the stairs, along the upstairs hall and into the bathroom!

That same weekend (Patrick was out of town, of course) he smeared toothpaste all over the bathroom (ALL over. A whole tube. WHAT was I doing that weekend?!?) and also managed to get into Justin's zyrtec and inhaler. Good times...

My mom was a nervous wreck when saw me...I was four and looking in the mirror I had cut my hair...I used to be fascinated when my mom was at the hairdresser!

This morning i woke up to ALL, every last bit of clothing from her dresser strewn around her room.

Has she cut her own hair yet? My Kayla had just moved in and she was helping me clip coupons. The doorbell rang, I went to answer it. When I came back she had chopped off all of her bangs! And she was going to be a flower girl in her foster sister's wedding in like two weeks! Her new nickname was Spike ;o)

Just yesterday-my children had gotten off of the bus.My youngest daughter,Kyla, went immediately to a rope ladder we have in a tree beside our house, that is also where my bird feeder is.......and before I could look up she had hit the bird feeder with something and the bird feeder was now empty...When I asked her what she was thinking she said" But,I thought it was a pinata!"

I stumbled upon your blog from another one and I laughed out loud when I saw the pile of tissues. What Mom can't relate to that sight??!

Your daughter is precious!I have 3 sons and none of them will let me braid their hair, or play with dolls :)

My favorite "too quiet" story is my niece and nephew at ages 2 & 4, took scissors and cut all the leaves and branches off a very tall houseplant in grandmas bedroom. When grandma walked in and gasped, they stood very still and when she said "wait till grandpa sees what you did" (trying to keep a straight face because grandpa couldn't care less) the kids looked at each other and said "lets not tell him"--problem solved. They are now 38 and 40 years old and to my knowledge grandpa never even noticed.

I will be adding you to my already too large blog list :)

Ive had this happen like a month ago or so. It's hard not to laugh. Another was when he emptied the wipes box. I didn't learn to keep it out of his way and he's been a repeat offender. Gotta love them!

Gosh, it's hard to just choose one moment but the one I remember the most is when I came to check on Shawn in his bedroom. I use to buy the big boxes of 48 pampers and had just opened up this one box...yup, he had pulled them alll out of the box and opened up every one of them! hehe

Jack climbed in the garden tub (not an easy thing to do), put down the plug, turned on the water and sat down with his diaper on. (All in 2 minutes time...)

And Jessica (patting you on the back)...it won't be too long now! You'll have volumes of "Joey" stories very soon! :)

I clearly remember the day (although it was over thirty years ago) when my younger son was quietly playing in his crib after he woke from his nap. I figured he'd been quiet way too long and went into his room to discover he had figured out how to take his diaper off and was having a grand time smearing poop all over the crib rails. I wanted to get in the car and drive away - but alas I was the designated adult. What a mess!!

SOMEONE in my house filled the (clean, mercifully) toilet with Playmobil guys this morning.
Good thing she doesn't know how to flush.

LOL well you saw the toy box incedent, and he does the same thing with his closet , videos, books etc..so he is a noisey guy BUT my neice, when she was 2.5ys went in the bathroom and closed the door ( not all the way ) I suddenly realized that she was TOO QUIET~! went looking and I found her behind the bathroom door COVER head to toe in body cream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I swear she was a snowman she was so white!!!

I think the worst one I have ever had was Chanelle. I wasn't home but her Dad was. She went in the refrigerater and took the club price huge container of margerine and smeared it all over the entire wall to wall carpet :) I was renting and it would not come out. We moved LOL Did you know that if you put margerine on a carpetit brings up all the dirt and makes huge dirt marks that do-not come off!

I think we have the box of wipes emptied out daily it's fun LOL

I cant remember all the things my kids got into....but I did have a yellow lab dog and I was on the internet and she was being so quiet.....when I went out to the kitchen to check on her she had chewed the new linoleum up!

If you look through my entries and look for "Powder Boy" my son wasted a whole bottle of baby powder all over my living room. Everything was white. It was crazy, my vacum couldnt even get it all up.

hehehe yes we have experience the Kleenex and toilet paper!

Anne said...

The most infamous one was my older two and a box full of styrofoam packing peanust. They are impossible to pick up, can't use a broom or the vacuum and they break into little pieces tha kling to everything with static electricity.

Dori (Aviva's mommy) said...

Are you sure you want to know, it is very gross.

I warned you.

Aviva thought it would be great to take of her diaper and play with her poop all over plastic table. I was so nauseated by it.

My goodness... There are so many memories floating around my brain now... The most prominent was when Rhi and her cousin "ju-vonni" were with grandma for the day (they were 2 at the time). She explained to me how they were suddenly being too quiet and she found them emptying the contents of her purse into the toilet. Compact, blush... Ruined... I had to laugh, but she was kinda mad. Nate once finished a whole jar of pickles and then drank ALL the vinegar afterwards because I forgot to put it back in the fridge... Good times... *sigh*

Hahaha, we have not gotten quite there yet, but I am expecting many moments to come.

Funny!! Hey Michelle, you know those days that Kayla seems to be running circles around you. well... a good quiet activity for Kayla would be.....removing all the tissue from the tissue box!!!!! :)I am serious. Just buy the cheapest brand of facial tissue and save for the "rainy day" how can I keep Kayla entertained for at least 1/2 and etc. (actually, Aunt Debbie suggested this and I thought it sounded like a great idea.. think about it.. oh by the way, congrats on winning a contest and getting to pick out a unique brand of shoes for Kayla!!!! Love Mom

Angie said...

Oh there are many! playing in the toilet, dumping a bottle of shampoo on the carpet, getting in the dresser pulling all the clothes out...you get the idea! Ü

Oh wow -- I could comment on this one for a while, maybe I will do a post on this on my blog. Praise God, I don't have any poop smearing story like a couple commenters and since I don't have hardwood, I'm thankfully no one got into the cranberrys on my carpets (that sounds horrible!), but we've had makeup -- lots of makeup, baby powder everywhere, toilet paper, she climbed into the toilet and I found her standing there (praise God it was before she was potty trained, so the toilet water was "clean"), she cut her hair, she took a whole bottle of shampoo and a whole bottle of lotion emptied them on my couch and did "finger painting" on it.... and all except cutting her hair and maybe the last one was before she was 2!!! Thankfully all the stuff she has done recently haven't been too destructive - just emptying toy boxes, drawers, closets -- but thankfully nothing too hard to clean. And that's just Isabella, I can't imagine what I have to look forward to with both of my girls as Amelia gets older. :)

Very cute Post Michelle. I usually find Jaden Ripping out all of the DVD's and CD's from our Armoire when ever it's too quiet, either that or he's going to the bathroom and wants to be left alone! P.S., stop by my blog today if you can, I have a post you might be interested in. Noelle

Wow, this reminds me of Gary. When Gary was 1 1/2 i used to let him color at the table with his sister. I would always clean up the crayons when they were done. Well when ever my son was quiet you knew something was going on. I walked into his room and found him coloring on his bedroom walls. i cleaned it up and took the crayons away. I wasn't sure how he got them since. I cleaned them up after they were done. I knew he wasn't holding them and they were not in his pockets . I knew always to check those. well he was quiet again so i went in his room and found him pulling a crayon out from under his bed.Well i looked and found a whole bunch of crayons. so i took them. I did let him know they were for coloring books and paper. But he was only 1/2. then on day while they were coloring katie said, "Mommy Gary is putting crayons down his pants." I checked and he had them in his diaper. he had four that i found.
It's cute about Kayla. I love Hearing what KAyla does. It takes me back to when mine were little.

Been there. Snuggle Bug has pulled out EVERY wet wipe in a package, more than once, while being too quiet in his room. :)

Especially must feel odd for Kayla to be quiet, because she is such a go-getter. Hmmm, Sheena being quiet. Not too much of an issue for us yet. I will let you know in a few months.

Well, that would be the time I came home from work and discovered a kool-aid fight had been going on in my kitchen. Didn't know it until I opened the silverware drawer. And the dish cubbord. By the time I got the mess cleaned up, I'd completely forgotten to ask my girls why on earth the drawers and cubbords were open when they started throwing red kool-aid at each other.

Your little kleenex disaster pales by comparison. LOL

Michelle, thanks for your comments on my blog, I actually "know" you from T21 online (mostly a lurker) and Kayla is so gorgeous...b/c she is so close in age to my son (he was born in August--when is her b-day?) I have followed her closely. I just love hearing about her and seeing her pics!
