Questions

How come when I color with Kayla she always wants to color on the page I'M coloring on? Or the same spot I'm coloring? Even if we have 2 different coloring books out she inevitably takes over the page I'm coloring on.

How come I have to use the particular color she wants me to use? What if I didn't want to use orange? But no, I have to have orange (here mommy!) because that's what she is using.

How come she won't let me snuggle, hold and cuddle her when I want to, but when she wants to be held it's always when I'm in the middle of something?

How can someone so little take up more space in the bed then the 2 adults? On the mornings we bring Kayla back to bed with us Joe and I end up clinging to our sides of the bed while Kayla gets the whole middle.

How come we tell her it's time for dinner and she seems excited about it "oh ok!" and runs over to get in her chair; then when I place her plate in front of her she barely takes one look at it before pushing it away?

How come she won't eat anything for dinner without much begging, bribing, and pleading from her parents to just take "one bite" and then "ok one more bite" but if it were a breakfast food like cereal, oatmeal, pancakes, waffles, eggs, sausage, hashbrowns she would eat it right up with out any protest?

How can motherhood be so frustrating, yet so rewarding at the same time?

How can she pretend to be so innocent when she's not? Like the times that she knows I'm upset with her for doing something she shouldn't have, when I try to talk to her about it she turns her face away from me (so as not to see "the look" on my face I guess) then she turns back and says "hi mommy" like everything is ok. When she says it like that you can't help but smile at her; the little stinker.

How come they have to grow up so fast?

And no I don't really expect answers to any of my questions!

because being a "mommy" our hearts go "deep" and "wide" in the
"giving" and the "loving" department and with that comes the "frustration" of being a parent because we realize our children are miniature adults and extremely independent!! :) Michelle, I smiled the whole time reading your blog "questions".. I had to just smile and chuckle at YOU!!! You are so funny!! but, at the same time , it is so true.. the little stinker.... Kayla is one smart little stinker too....:) Love Mom

I'm asking myself the same questions. Especially the one with the bed and the cuddle time. Obviously it's the same everywhere, thank God, we're not the only ones.

Yeah, I've had to deal with the the bed issue too. I can't decide which of my babies is worst at hogging the bed- they both do it, but I'm still just so thankful that they still want to snuggle in the mornings, and still need me after a nightmare. I loved how you said Kayla acts like nothing is wrong (Hi Mommy!) that killed me! She's awesome. Give that little stinker a big hug for me!Time does go by so fast... Do you look at her sometimes and say to yourself: Oh my goodness! My Baby is already three years old!! When did that happen?? I do that a lot lately...
love you!

I smiled so much reading this. They are questions every mother ask. Wait until she becomes a teenager then there are a whole bunch more questions. That is where i am at. The little one sleeping in a bed sure brought back memories. Tiffany and katie slept wild. They would kick me in the head. How come they never push Dads off the beds!
I love how you said Kayla turns her face then says hi mommy! She is truly a smart little girl! I just love it!
love,MIMI

With theses questions you can see the personality in Kayla. In answer to your questions: It's because you made her who she is! I bet you wouldn't have it any other way either. I giggle everytime A gets assertive. I love it!

Oh, I'm glad you weren't really expecting the answers to these questions. :) This is so funny and sounds so much like Isabella!! Just this morning, I woke up clinging to my side of the bed for dear life while the only other person in bed with me was her.

Colouring is one of the most frustrating things to do with a kid, I swear. Mainly because The Baby likes to stop for a crayon snack mid-way.

Ah - the age-old, universal questions. I'm all for changing the one where they grow up so fast. Can't we just slow time down a little bit?
This was a sweet post Michelle.

I was bobbing my head in agreement all the way through your post.

I often wonder why my drink tastes so much better to my preschooler when he has the same thing in his glass. LOL.

Great post!

Oh, I love what your Mom wrote Michelle! So Sweet! :)

Kids are so smart and she wants to emulate you and wants you to be pleased with her. She loves you! The picky eating thing is something I never had a problem with raising my three kids but I see it is going to be a real problem with my grandson Ben. He turns his head and refuses to take a bite and we have to coax him unbelievably to eat sometimes. They do grow up so fast!

Don't laugh but my grandkitten Clarence is the same way...everything has to be "his" idea...hehe!!

Those were the cutest questions Michelle....and I have no answers! But I do have one more question. How come when you are getting ready to leave the house and ask if anyone has to use the bathroom they say no. But as soon as you all get in the car and going on your way they have to go! lol

I know what you mean.

When I get mad at my 3-year old, I hate it when he won't face me, avoiding my gaze.

"Look at me while I'm talking to you Mister," I tell him.

He continues to avoid my gaze.

"Now you are being rude and that's not good," I tell him, my voice increasing a notch.

He still avoids my gaze.

"Why don't you want to look at me?" I ask.

Silence. More silence.

"Tell me," I said.

My 3-year old finally looks at me and, in a whisper, says, "Because your saliva is hitting my face."

What a great post, Michelle...I think all us mommies have asked those questions at one time or another:-) I even remember my mom saying "you wait until you have your own kids then you'll see it's not easy!" lol Yes, sometimes. ok, a lot of times, it seems motherhood is a thankless and frustrating job but we just get one little smile or hug and our hearts melt.

It's a female power struggle and you love her :)

Why does Kayla do all these things?....Because she is just like every other kid her age! It's been a few years for me but boy do I remember what your talking about! When I played Barbies with my five year old she never let me have my own thoughts! My Barbie had to say exactly what my Kayla wanted her to. She's still kinda that way at 20 ;o)

And I'm happy to read that Kayla is doing very well with potty training! My kids were already potty trained when they moved in so I never had the joy of going through it~I consider that a good thing! Well, I would have liked to of had them as babies, but you know what I mean, don't you?

We are having a blizzard today!!!

Yup, sounds like every child I've known! Especially the bed. Our Kat, now almost 42, used to sleep sideways, more like a cat than Kat!

But you treasure those things...and remember the stories when they are grown! The family legends!

I have to ask myself some of these same questions with Snuggle Bug. When we color, how come he has to have the color that I've chosen? Why can't he use one of the other 26 choices?

Oh, and sorry for spoiling your lunch with my disguisting foot picture in my pedicure post. :)

Lordy - if you have the answers to those questions you'd have to share them with the rest of us poor parents! Hannah is pretty free and easy with the cuddles at the moment - looks like I had better enjoy them while they last.

P.S. I just showed Nate the video of Kayla signing the lullaby song... He's been asking me to show him, but always before school when there's no time... This morning he got ready fast just to watch. He loved it.
