Slow Cooker Thursday

We finally have cold weather - this cold front has moved in and it's chilly here! So here is a nice drink to warm you up during the winter nights!

Hot Buttered Apple Rum

4 inches stick cinnamon, broken
1 tsp whole allspice
1 tsp whole cloves
7 C apple juice
1.5 - 2 C rum
1/3-1/2 C packed brown sugar
butter

1. To make a spice bag, cut a 6-in square from a double thickness of 100-percent-cotton cheesecloth. Place cinnamon, allspice, and cloves in center of square. Bring up corners of cheesecloth and tie closed with kitchen string.

2. In a slow cooker, combine spice bag, apple juice, rum and brown sugar. Cook on low-heat for 7-8 hrs or high-heat for 3-4 hrs.

3. Remove and discard spice bag. Ladle hot punch into cups; float about 1/2 tsp butter on each serving.

I've made this the last couple of years at holiday gatherings and everyone really likes it. I'm sure you could omit the rum and it would still taste good!
