Grains of Gratitude

Five things I'm grateful for:

1. Each Nov the spouses' group on base provides a "Holiday Feast" for the single guys/gals on base. We provide a home-cooked, traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the fixins - free to them. I'm grateful to be able to provide food and help out at this annual event.

2. I'm grateful this year we were able to get a gift card from Walmart's Community Donation program which enabled us to buy 3 hams for the above-mentioned "Holiday Feast."

3. This doesn't really have anything to do with me, but a friend's husband came back from his deployment on Monday; I'm grateful for them that he is back.

4. Yesterday I unexpectedly had an extra toddler around the house. I ended up babysitting this 2-year old girl because her mom was feeling really miserable yesterday. Her husband is deployed and she just couldn't take care of her toddler (I know that feeling being that sick w/a toddler and was lucky Joe could stay home before). I thought I was only going to be watching her daughter for a couple of hours, but that turned into 8.5 hrs (there went my planned trip to go to JC Penney yesterday!) Kayla and this little girl do know each other, and play together, but I've only babysat her maybe once or twice before. So what about this am I grateful for? Grateful that things went so well! Grateful they played so nicely together, there was no fighting, no chaos (ok just one time they got into Kayla's bottles of lotions and bath soaps, but no harm done - just baths!), and grateful they both took naps at the same time!

5. Grateful to Christine for starting this "Grains of Gratitude" which makes me stop each week and reflect on what I have to be grateful about. Thanks Christine!

Awww - thanks Michelle :) I'm grateful for friends like you, and that you have such a great blog and I can see Kayla's beautiful big blue eyes and gorgeous smile each day :)

I love your list - and sooo happy that Kayla got such a great playdate! I bet her mom would list YOU as something she is grateful for today :)

Thanks for joining in each week - it really makes my day to see what others are grateful for too :)

Making a Thanksgiving meal for the single guys is just about one of the nicest things I've ever heard of. I'd love to be part of something like that.

It's so nice to read a post where someone lists the things they're grateful for. What a nice list you've done. And finding out Kayla has her own lotions and things just made me smile. Such a girlie girl she is!

You are a wonderful person to help out a sick friend like that. There is nothing worse than being ill and having to take care of a baby! Also the dinner for the singles is such a nice idea! Im sure they appreciate it more than you know. Might be their only home cooked meal for the holidays.

What a great idea that is to make a meal for the single folks. Sometimes a home cooked meal makes all the difference to someone's day.

Of all the pics of Sarah and her buddy Brooke that I have.. it's the one when they're in the tub that I treasure the most. My cousin and I used to bathe together and play Mermaids in the tub for hours.. it's one of my best childhood memories... I bet Kayla and her buddy liked the bath even more than getting into the lotions!

Lovely list as always!!!

Hey Michelle,
How sweet of you to give this mom a break, I know how that must have revived her. I love the closeness of Military families and what a ministry that could be.
I pray for your family as well, Thankyou for serving in our armed forces.

Love your Grains of Gratitude...when I read yours, it always makes me reflect on how my week went and what I should be grateful for. Sometimes it's the little things that we tend to forget to be grateful for!! I'm glad babysitting that little girl turned out well:-)
