Bribery...with french fries!

Yes, I bribed my daughter with french fries!

I thought I wouldn't resort to bribery when I had kids, much less bribery with food, even more so bribery with something like french fries - because my child wasn't going to be one of those children who research shows they claim french fries are their favorite food/vegetable!

Yes, Kayla loves her french fries. But we really don't eat them that often; if anyone knows me they know we don't eat out but maybe a couple times a month...and not usually fast food. If we do get fast food then I chose the "healthier" food choices on the kids menu.

So Kayla doesn't get fries that often - but my goodness can she eat them up!

She seriously needed her bangs trimmed and I've been putting if off for awhile now because of the last time I took her to the salon. What a fiasco that was! I have a friend who has been trimming her bangs for me, but she recently moved off-base and I just haven't been able to find the time to get over to her house.

As a last-ditch choice I decided to go to the salon on base (which I usually don't have a good experience with) but I thought, hey, it's just a trim of the bangs and I can get fries from the food court to bribe her with sitting still!

It worked! Well she actually wasn't doing too bad before my mom even got back with the fries; so was almost done actully! Kayla stayed rather still and kept preoccupied with the sticker - but she still enjoyed a couple fries when grandma got back and managed to have her bangs trimmed.

Then the lady charged me $4.75! Almost $5 to trim a 3-yr old's bangs? She sat in her chair for maybe 2-3 minutes! Last time I took her they didn't charge anything (which was a couple years ago, but still). The stylist that I go to in town doesn't charge anything for trimming bangs - children or adults! So I guess I won't be going back to the base salon!

I would have done it for free!!
Have you thought about growing out her bangs and having her hair all one length? no need to worry about monthly bangs trims.

I admit I am not the best bangs trimmer, two years ago I was trimming Aaron's bangs and he leaned foward as I went to cut the bangs and this stupid horrible mama cut his eye lid (the part under the brow). And it bled and bled and I felt so bad, he cried I cried and my brother happened to call at that time and I cried some more. Aaron still has a scar on his eyelid from that disaster! (Now I trim bangs with the hair between my fingers.) I still feel bad about it when I think about it and I see that poor little eye with a scar. He'll have to explain to his friends when he's 18 my mother did it. Oh the guilt. I guess in this case I would have paid the 5 bucks to get them trimmed! lol

$5 for bangs? Wonder what they charge for a full cute?!

At least she won't be too shaggy for the holiday weekend.

A mom's gotta do what a mom's gotta do! :)
And yep, the money doesn't seem fair, but that's about what most of the salons charge for trimming a child's bangs around here, too...actually more! :( That's why I try to do it myself, but I never do quite as well as the pros! ;)

wow...I can recall paying about $8 for a thorough brushing and a trim across the bottom...my oldest daughter was 10 I think...no wash or anything...after that, I did it myself for the girls! Well, at least it's done, and it was a positive experience for her...

Bribery? Oh yeah baby! Works like a charm in a pinch! But HOLY! I canNOT believe they charge you! So sad.

$5, it is too much money.

P.S. I think this new hair trim warrants a new photo--please :)

A little Bribery is O.k!!

Glad to hear she did better this time at the salon. But I wouldn't have charged close to $5.00 for a bang trim.

I'm with Rebecca, we need some Kayla Pics :)

That is awesome that she sat still!! Michelle, you would think we were KILLING Jackson when he gets a haircut. He looks like Ted Koppel right now because no one wants to cut it. I had a lady refuse to cut it one time because he was screaming when we walked in the door! The other lady offered to cut it for free because she felt so sorry for us!

I've seriously tried everything...but fries. You can bet I'll try them next time!

Sometimes we have to do the stuff we hate to get it all done. $5 seems a little steep for bangs!

Happy Thanksgiving!

It's getting ridiculous the cost of getting a haircut these days...and $5 for trimming the bangs is terrible! But...glad it was able to get done:-) Oh Michelle, there are a lot of things we swear we won't do with our kids but when the time comes, sometimes you'll try anything! lol Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!! xox

I'd do it for $3.

Just kidding!

I used to do the whole head for the kids on my street for $5 in the mid-1980's. Their parents probably just paid me to babysit, but I thought I was a hairdresser!

Yeah, I think 5 bucks is a bit much for trimming Kayla's bangs... Especially if it only took 2-3 minutes. That's terrible. But still it worked out so at least that's good. I'd like to see some new pics please...
love ya!

$5 for bangs? Outrageous! I always just trim 'em myself - and my kids have the awful bangs to show for it.

Bribery works best...Aviva is an expert on fries. And if you can believe it she has never had a hair cut and will be 6 in January!!

HUGS!

I once bribed with one m&m per snip (I was cutting ds's hair myself). You can imagine how long it took . . .

Well $5 sounds cheap here (even converted). I am sure Kayla looks great after her new do. Sometimes have to pull out all the motherly techniques - bribery included. jotcr2 :)
