Five Ingredient Friday

I got this recipe from Joe's grandfather and we made them a few weeks ago - they really work! It's handy for when you're making more than one type of omlet too; and all the omlets can get done at the same time.

Ziploc Omlet (or Omlet in a Bag)

Beat 2 eggs in a bowl then transfer to a quart-size ziploc bag.

Put out a variety of ingredients such as cheeses, ham, onion, green pepper, tomato, hashbrown, salsa etc.

Each person adds what they want to their eggs and gently shake the bag.

Make sure to get all the air out of the bag and zip it up.

Place the bags in rolling, boiling water for 13 minutes. (You can usually cook 6-8 omlets in a large pot).

Open the bag and the omlet will roll out easily.

You can also have these prepared the night before and in the morning just put the bags in the boiling water.

We make these when we're camping in a pot over the fire - they're awesome!

Okay, so I've seen these before but I've never tried them. It sounds so much simpler than the messy way to make them in a skillet (I hate cleaning up after making omlets)! I think I'll try to make these tomorrow morning.

Thanks for participating in my Five Ingredient Friday recipe exchange!

Going forward, here's what I think I'm going to do. I'm going to change the name to "Favorite Ingredients Friday" and allow my participants to decide how many ingredients they want to post, while encouraging them to keep it as simple as possible. :) What do you think?

One of my friend's makes her omlet like this. I like that there is little mess.

Good grief, Michelle! I've seen this idea around forever but never tried it because it seemed like surely it would all stick inside the bag. And now you're saying it doesn't? I'm thrilled!

So many things I like about this. Jammy's absolutely right that this would be perfect for camping trips. I love that it's not messy. I agree with Overwhelmed. We all love omelets but who likes to clean up afterwards?

But what I REALLY like is that I can make these up the night before. I'm not a morning person. At. All. :-) But even I could stagger over to the stove and put a pot of water on to boil and grab some premade omelets to dump in.

This may be the best idea I've seen since Overwhelmed started this. You're my hero! :-)
