What do you do

when it's Saturday, your husband goes on an almost 3-hour bike ride, comes home long enough to take a shower, then has to go into work, and you have a 3-yr old to entertain?

Make a fort! Or, tent, as Kayla calls it. I'll be the first to admit I'm not the "fun and creative" parent in the family; and this is actually the first time I've done this (not counting the one time I made her a little tent by draping a sheet across the head/foot boards of her bed!)

Here is our fort/tent:

So I don't have the best experience at making a cool fort, but I think Kayla approved!

I think you made a really good fort!Looks like you had a nice afternoon having some Mommy and daughter time together. My kids use to love for me to make them forts also. I remember also have a fun time as a kid making forts with my mom. It's the time together that makes it special. You are creative! I can't believe you said you weren't.You are a wonderful mother who always thinks of fun stuff to do with your little angel.I think Kayla would agree with me on that.
    love ya!

  2. That fort has a distinctly familiar look about it. I believe you and I must have attended the same "fort-making" class. :-)
That happy smile says "Great Fort Mom!" You did a good job Michelle.

  16. Look perfect to me! Sheets work the best and fitted sheets are great for spots that don't have perfect corners, just an fyi.

  20. Oh this looks like so much fun!! I remember building forts like this with my sister.

Forts don't have to be fancy to be lots of fun. You did a great job. And she obviously loved it!

Wow!! You made a HUGE fort! That is so awesome! I once made a fort for the kids that took up most of the garage. They loved it so much they spent the night in it and even invited friends over to play in it. We left it up for 3 days and there was lots of crying when it finally had to be taken down. Kayla looks like she had a blast!!
love you! Thanks for helping me relive a great memory. I think I'll have to build another fort soon.

Take it from me (ahem), an expert in making forts. That is a great fort.

Would you mind an unsolicited tip? When my 3-year old wants to play fort and I want to do something else, I build two forts -- one for me, one for my little one. He stays in his fort and do his own thing. I stay on my fort and I do my own thing (like, as my 3-year old would call it, computering.

THE BIG SMILE SAYS IT ALL!!!! :)
children do not care if the fort is "perfect" or "accurate" It is "different" because this is something that is not done on a regular basis and that is what makes if "fun" and "enjoyable" and because a parent made it happen!!!! Love Mom

    Just look at her face!!!
Children LOVE that kind of playing. I sometimes put a real tent (for one person) in the middle of our cave and then the kids disapear for a hole weekend!!
Except when they´re hungry or thursty.

I vividly remember the fun I had when I was little. Playing under sheets with my three younger brothers. Free entertainment is the best!
