When I was younger, they didn't have whole-house systems like that, but my parents did a lot of different things for my allergies, as per my allergists instructions.

when i was younger, i had the worst allergies. THE WORST. I was constantly weeping, and I had to get up in the middle of the night and steam vicks so i could breath. Allergist told mom to buy lots of fancy products, and they really work! It doesn't cost that much, and they have lasted for at least 10-12 years for me, under constant use!

I use (to this day, even though my allergies are much better) these things, and they really worked for me:
--fancy covers for my matress and pillows. They are non-permiable so dust mites can't get through. They sell cheaper versions at target, but the really effective ones are from the national allergy people.

--HEPA filter for my bedroom. leave this on high during the day when I'm not in the room, low at night to reduce noise. you just have to keep the door closed so it's not trying to filter the whole house!

--HEPA vacuum filter. we used to vacuum allmost every day. it really helps, and especially when I was of the age that I rolled around on the floor a lot.

--putting stuffed animals in the dryer. this kills the mites and stuff in them. my favorite ones got a spin once a week.

I (my mom) did all these things, and we were still able to keep our family cat. I really reccomend them!

the national allergy foundation has lots of info for ways to reduce allergens.

Just remember, it can get better!
hope this helps!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24014954.post-6245824688477331972008-06-01T17:18:00.000-04:002008-06-01T17:18:00.000-04:00You know, I was just wondering if Judah was allerg...You know, I was just wondering if Judah was allergic to something here in New Mexico. He has never had any issues before, but the last few days he has been sneezing like crazy. Like 20 times in the space of 5 minutes. It's not usual for him, and he doesn't have a cold. I think I'll watch him really close, with allergies in mind. Hadn't thought about the high winds thing (And boy, does New Mexico ever have high winds!!!!).

-AndreaAndrea@Sgt and Mrs Hubhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02226888560872834473noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24014954.post-66959296901366461532008-06-01T15:47:00.000-04:002008-06-01T15:47:00.000-04:00I feel Kayla's pain... I always wondered if this has to do with the structure of their eyes (Erik has the prominent epicanthal folds, too). Who knows.

Good info on the air filter. We live in a dirt pile surrounded by trees that produce cubic tons of bright yellow pollen. I'll check it out.Nancyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15752344076797977728noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24014954.post-82979587716989728612008-05-31T21:09:00.000-04:002008-05-31T21:09:00.000-04:00I am sorry!
